Badge Drop #10 is the PENULTIMATE POST!!!

by nicole

Can you BELIEVE it’s ALREADY (nearly) HERE? Is your mind BOGGLED that it’s FINALLY (almost) OVER? Are you AMAZED to hear that after a LONG and GLORIOUS summer, it’s finally, truly, really…the SECOND-TO-LAST BADGE DROP OF 2016?!?!?!?!

Okay, sure, it’s not the VERY LAST one. But who needs to be the ULTIMATE when the PENULTIMATE is so incredibly IMPORTANT?! Where would we be without the second-to-last rung on a ladder? FLAT ON OUR BUTTS in a STEW of EMBARRASSMENT, that’s where! And what would we do without the second-to-last PIECE of your “CATS AT PLAY” JIGSAW PUZZLE? You’d be left FRUSTRATED and FOREVER WONDERING if that cat on the right HAS A NOSE OR NOT!

And what on EARTH would we do without the PENULTIMATE LETTER in the ALPHABET? It would be MADNESS! The sun would be ELLOW! We’d all be pedaling around on BICCLES! And badges would all drop on FRIDA—which would be SUPER weird, not to mention UNCOMFORTABLE FOR FRIDA.

And speaking of Badge Drops, HERE IT IS!

Sorry, Frida.

2016 Badge Drop #10

There they are. The FINAL FANTASTIC FEW. Because while this may not be the VERY LAST Badge Drop of 2016, it certainly is the very last drop of ALL NEW seek-and-find badges before next week’s MASTER BADGE DROP!!! So if you want those lovely, shiny MASTER BADGES that proclaim to the world that you are an OBSESSIVE COMPLETIONIST and PROUD OF IT, you’ll have to BUCKLE DOWN and POWER UP your laptop or your phone or your feet to finish ALL THOSE BADGES that you’ve been saving for a rainy day!

We really hope you appreciate the PENULTIMATE-NESS of this post and other NOT-QUITE-LAST things--and how CONFUSED we’d be without them!

Good luck, gamers, and THANKS FOR PLAING!!!!

YES! There are 3 items yet to come in the summer game shop. All 3 will appear next friday with the final badge drop!

The Jupiter badge has only five clues, but is expecting six answers. It has not yet been awarding to anyone, so maybe there's an error in the listing?

@eli GM are all the badges next week master badges? Or will there be some new ones to do? It clearly says that this is the last of ALL NEW but that doesn't necessarily mean no new next week...

There will be only master badges in the final badge drop as is tradition. Then you'll have one last weekend to collect any missing badges to earn the masters!

@Thomas B Brown

Yes. King M. There is only one item when you search the last name only...I think.

Jupiter Rockets has five codes but 6 are needed! Could someone please fix that?

Thanks @Eli GM. This is my first year really playing. I dabbled slightly last year but started so late that it was all very overwhelming and I didn't do much. I didn't know about the tradition.

Thanks as always for your hard work! Can't believe it's almost over. This will be my last aadl summer game since I'll be moving next year! After playing for the last three years, I'm definitely going to miss it all! Ann arbor truely has the best library system and staff!

OK Jupiter Rockets is fixed. There really are just 5 codes, the 6th was an error. If you already found all 5, any scoring action will award the badge.

Well, my green Borosilicate WonderGlass just bit the dust. Bummer, cuz they're sold out.

I am also sad that this summer game will come to an end. It's been a lot of fun!

Julie Andrews still not working. King M. Only two options for M. Ugh.
TBB

I'm going to have to set an alarm for next Friday in hopes of snagging some new loot in the game shop!

I really have to catch up badges that I didn't do ( 42 web search badges!!!!). How did the summer game go by so fast??

I'm gladly welcoming Fall/winter But I HATE that the games has to end. I wish I had time after my kids went back to school to get more badges done!

It really seems like there must be some hidden clue for a code inside these blog posts. I mean why all the significant words in caps?

The slow crawl to the end. Sigh. Summer, where have you gone? I'll miss the Summer Game.

I earned all the levels of the Big Buff Cheeto Puff and the last code that I entered came back with the message that I had already entered that code in July. It would not then activate that I earned the badge....

Mickplu, sounds like you might have found a code from another badge. The Big Buff Cheeto Puff badge is working properly, so take another look at the last clue and check some other items, you'll find the code!

Thanks for all the Steven badges. I'd not heard of the cartoon before. Now I feel like an expert!

@TBB if you get all the badges in a series you automatically get a master badge for bonus points.

I don't think the second code in the "Search TheRide" badge is showing on the AAATA web site.

@valeriemates the at a website takes some searching. There are pages that are very similar that link to each other. Sometimes you have to follow the links on a page to get to the exact one you want.

Sadly im leaving next week! Was hoping to get more prizes this Friday so I collect this week before I'm gone forever!

Finally got the pokemon bonus! Thanks to everyone who gave hints. Its rather daunting to read the list of hundreds of pokemon names!

It's the final countdown!
DAH na na-na, dah na NAH-NAH-nah...

(Excuse me, please. It's a serious compulsion.)

@sara thanks for mentioning the Pokemon bonus. I must have been going too fast when I did that badge to even notice there was a bonus.

@Sara re: field lines

If you've lined up the two buildings on a map it is at the top of the obvious parking structure. We did not have any trouble finding it. Hope you found it too!

@kathscot

Thanks for the alignment help! It was easy- especially on a Sunday. Ironacilly, we parked right on top of the codes, so we had to move the car!

Picked up the last of our explorer badges today. The Arb is in no way wheelchair, walker, stroller, etc accessible. Those with mobility issues may not want to do this one. Had this been any more difficult, I would not have been able to do it myself and I'm thankful I thought to grab my big umbrella which I used as a walking stick. We did find the directions slightly difficult and went the wrong way a couple of times. Fortunately, I figured out pretty quickly we were going the wrong way.

My son loved the spinning cube. He thought that was cool.

This comment also gets me the last comment badge with 100 comments.

Just some web search badges to complete and I'll be done for this summer.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new AADL Triple-zip Lunch Cooler! I had lukewarm feelings about the 2013 green AADL Lunch Cooler Plus, and I really liked the 2014 AADL Space Cooler. But I have officially reached lunch cooler nirvana with the AADL Triple-zip Lunch Cooler!

And the Ludicrous Plaid print is my favorite style of the AADL EZ-Roll Picnic Blanket. Thank you game masters for bringing the picnic blanket back two years in a row. There's just something magical about running into a fellow Summer Gamer at a park using their AADL picnic blanket.

Where am I missing the Pokemon bonus? Where do I find that to get going on it?

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the stair tactics badge and I need help finding the 3rd code word. I know what the anwser is they are looking for but when I go to plug it into the catalouge I get thousands of answers to sort through so I am hoping that some of you gamer's out there can help me with some more clues so I can find the 3rd code word.
Thanks so much for the help

I enjoyed exploring the Arb today. I wasn't sure about the part that was going to be steep, but found it wasn't bad at all. I've been challenged by much steeper areas of the Arb in the past. A good challenge...

To all the summer gamer's out there I am working on three badges and I need help find the code words to all three of them,
1) Final Countdown: the 4th code word

2) Stair Tatics: the 3rd code word

3) Juipter Rockets: the 3rd code word.

I have googled up each and every anwser to them all to no avail so I am hoping that soem of you gamer's outh there can help me out with some more clues as to were I can find the code words.
Thanks so much

<strong>@AprilCDB</strong>

Congrats on finishing the Explorer badges! I don't know if I'm going to be able to get them all done. Every time I've tried to do them, it's either rained or my anxiety would ratchet up and keep me home. :P :P Frustrating! I was going to do all the Downtown stuff this past Sunday after work and then we had torrential downpour Downtown so that wasn't happening. It's supposed to rain on my day off this week too! :P But I'm hoping to maybe do some of like the PowerArt ones where I can get in and out of the car with them and then Briarwood which is all inside. Maybe I'll get lucky and it won't rain all day so I can do at least one or two of the park ones.

Also congrats on 100 comments! I'm working my way close to 50 so I should be getting that badge soon. :)

<strong>@LMD3577</strong>

Here's a little help. :)

Jupiter Rockets #3 - If you indeed have the correct term (it starts with a "d"), then it should be within the first few results. For me it is in the first result, but sometimes because I'm staff, the numbering in the results is a bit different than it is for patrons since I see all the things we don't have current copies of.

Stair Tactics #3 - If you're searching the correct movie title, it should be in the first few results as well. It was in the second result on my list, but again, the number may be different for you.

Final Countdown #4 - If you have the correct term (it starts with a "p"), it should be in the top 3-4 results. It was the first result for me, but again, numbering may be different for you.

I hope that helps at least a bit!

I'm having a hard time on the 5th code for the Stair Tactics badge - any hints? I found the actress A*** M*****, but I'm not finding her in another "Hitchcockian film".

Thanks!

@lmd3577 make sure you're putting the fancy science word of how plants create their own food into the catalogue.

@lmd3577 for stair tactics Googled books that inspired Hitchcock then put the repeated author into the catalogue rather than try to figure out the actual movie.

Help! Lost in space- somewhwew near Jupiter....I think.

I have no clue what I'm looking for for the last code.

@lbootzin

I took your advice and googled, "autocomplete."

Then I realized what you meant! Too funny. Time to go to bed!

Ill try your intended advice in the morning!

It is not THANKS FOR PLAING!!!!! It is THANKS FOR PLAYING!!!!!

is there 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 badges in total?

Hi all,

I'm currently stuck on the first code for the "Stair Tactics" badge. I've tried googling various things in an attempt to discover the monument in question, but so far I've pretty much drawn a complete blank. (These Hitchcock badges are by far the hardest for me!)

If anyone has any tips for me, I would be very grateful. :)

Thanks!

- FAVORITE496

(On another note, I cannot believe that the summer is already almost over. This year's Game seems to have flown by faster than ever before! I will miss this game. Well, hey, I suppose there's always next year. ;))

Yaldah

The badge clue reads: "Notorious also has a shot of a great monument, one that should be familiar to anyone watching this year's Olympics."

Focus on that, even if you know nothing about Hitchcock or Notorious.

@willow - Ahh, thank you!! I used you tip and was able to successfully find the code within just a few minutes of searching. Thank you so much!

<strong>@wolfe.lindsey</strong>

Just search the catalog for the name. Trying to figure out the actual movie is hard. It says "Hitchcockian" but that doesn't actually mean a Hitchcock movie. That had me all confused at first. But when I just searched her name, I got it in the first few results on the page. I hope that helps!

Happy tonight that I managed to get the Mega Tag Master badge and the Giga Comment master badge. I may try to get the Giga Tag Master badge, but not sure I'll make it with just one week to go! It's hard to find things that I haven't tagged yet without going through and just tagging all the books in one category with that category name. I'm sad that one week from tonight is the finale party. :( :( I'm not ready for the Summer Game to end. It's so much fun and the Summer Game Team does such an awesome job every year! I'm working the reference desk that night if you want to come say hi, tho' I may run down to the party on my break. :)

PSA: don't forget to do the stair tactics bonus once you finish the badge. I almost didn't notice it.

@lbootzin

Yes, I got the badge without even googling autofill. Once I looked at the clue after getting some sleep, the correct answer just popped into my head!

@AprilCDB - Wow, congrats on getting all the explorer badges!

I finished the last of the Web Search and a few other ones a couple days ago, all the ones I'm able to do. I have all the contributor badges except for the reviewing ones. I got the one for 100 reviews, but to get to 500 is a huge leap, and not one I'm going to be able to make. I am amazed that someone got it!

@Fevvers, thanks! Congrats on the Web badges! I'm still working on those. I have two from last week and three of the Hitchcock one's left (one of which is from last week). The Hitchcock one's are giving me a run for my points. Not a fan of those, but not quite as bad as the Pokemon series a couple of years ago. I'm hoping to at least get the two non-Hitchcock one's before the release all the Master badges tomorrow.

so excited to see new badges, but sad to see the games nearing an end. This has been a great game to play along with and it came at a perfect time. It really encouraged me to get out and explore a little bit! I am still a little new to Ann Arbor. I will have lived here for a year in the coming months. I especially loved the explorer badges. There were so many beautiful, fun, and interesting places listed to visit. I know in the future i will be paying them another visit.
I would like to send out a huge thank you to the Ann Arbor Library and their Staff, who help orchestrate and make this a possibility, it is greatly appreciated.

Yay! It didn't rain all day like they were originally saying it was going to. :) I managed to get out and get the Gallup Park explorer badge done. :) I tried to do the Tree Lines badge, but the place I was pretty sure it was, I couldn't find the big rock and there was construction going on so finding a place to park was difficult. I tried a couple other parks in the same vicinity but I've got nothing. Totally stumped now on that one. I was going to do Black Pond Woods too, but the humidity pretty much wiped me out after Gallup. I'm definitely not getting all the explorer badges done before next week but I might get at least one more done. Maybe 2 if the weather cooperates.

Thank you so much AADL for a fun summer activity. Gave me something to do while my husband plays PokemonGo. :-)

The explorer badges have been so much fun. And I'm hoping to do the power art one tomorrow. That's all I have left besides contributor badges and events ones that I missed. 100 comments is doable, I think. But I'm definitely not getting to 500 of anything.

Walked through Briarwood Mall several times but could only find 4 of the 5 AADL Summer Game billboards. Where is the fifth one?? Sigh!

@ValerieL, you might not have been at the right park. When we were there, there wasn't any construction and the rock was super easy to see. We actually saw it from the street before entering the park. It's North of the hospital. There are several parks in the immediate area. The one you're looking for is very popular in the summer because of the "attraction" just to the right of the playground when facing North. The name of the park is also the name of the street it's located on.

Are the Briarwood ones still up? I thought I'd read they would only be there through the 21st.

Having trouble with "Jupiter's Story" clue #4.
Can anyone help, please?

re: FRIEND CODES

I was just wondering, did people exchange friend codes at library events this summer? At the few classes I attended, no one did. It seems strange that we are not shy about acquiring virtual friends online, but are shy to speak to people in person.

@sara re Friend Codes
I traded codes with someone I met at Briarwood while playing. And I chatted with quite a few new people while doing explorer and alignment badges, but completely forgot about trading friend codes. But I agree that it's definitely easier to do virtually.

@sara - Yes, I was actually thinking the same thing. xD I'm definitely one of those people who doesn't mind sharing my code virtually the comments but would be quite hesitant to approach someone in person about it, but I agree, it definitely is a bit odd.

<b>@dnkratz</b>

Check the Wikipedia page for The Great Red Spot itself. Look through the different sections. You're looking for its rotation pattern, not a number related to the rotation of Jupiter itself.

The only way I know my friend code is because last summer I changed my nickname to include it. I wouldn't think to share it in person because I wouldn't be able to remember it! (And i will admit that I still don't get the point of them, other than points that is...)

In case anyone was wondering, the Sweetwaters tea is loose, not bagged, so you'll need to use an infuser in your mug or kettle, or something else to strain the tea leaves out.

I made a weak cup of it yesterday, and enjoyed it without getting negative caffeine effects. There wasn't much flavor at that strength, but what aroma and flavor I did get was very pleasant.

Finished the public art badge just in time for the master badges! I'm excited to see the new store items.

@camelsamba - Good point. And, yes, I know what you mean about friend codes; at first, I assumed there were going to be other features added that were based off of the friend codes, but this is the second summer with them, and nothing like that has shown up, so I'm guessing it's not happening. I guess the idea was supposed to me allowing people to connect more with other players in person (although the online sharing via comments somewhat spoils that aspect, which I was why I was initially a bit wary about using that, although now I don't mind) and maybe to help spread Summer Game to more people, but it does seem a bit strange.
But, hey, if the game designers like the feature, who's complaining? ;)

- FAVORITE496

Yes, t-shirts!! I was hoping to have a new design in the shop this year, and these look great! Already eagerly awaiting mine, although I know it won't be coming in until towards the end of September.
Thanks for following up on our requests, Summer Game staff!! :D

Nice shirts! I wonder if they are on display. Its hard to figure out what size to order sight unseen- some run large, some run small.

Hrmmm, what to spend some hard-earned points on...

I know a couple certain people who like to fidget stuff, so I'm going to try the Tangle Toy! Never seen one of those before.

Wow, BOOM! Master Badges just hit!!!

That was a satisfying wall of yellow on my screen. :P

It doesn't look like the master badges have been awarded. When I click on the badge, it says that I've won all the required badges but still haven't won the master.

Also, the Sweetwaters coffee is back in stock but no button appears for add it to my cart!

OK, the badges took effect but the coffee add to cart button still does not appear and I have enough points to purchase!

<strong>@AprilCDB</strong>

Yup. Wrong park. Thanks for the hints. :) Maybe I can go out tomorrow night after work and look for it. :) When they capitalized Playground in the clue it made me think of another park/playground area. I was north of the hospital complex but apparently a bit *TOO* north. :)

Update: I did find it there. :) Thanks for the hints. :) I actually thought that park might be too close to the complex to actually get the view well. But nope, perfect view.

Love all the helpful comments. I missed that there was a Hitchcock bonus. Took me a while but I found it!

@kathscot the power of Google and a good description is amazing. I was surprised at how quickly I managed to find that image on the internet having never seen a Hitchcock movie in my life.

Hitchcock bonus? Where? Is it on the last badge? I haven't completed that one yet. Hope to today.

update: never mind, I found the bonus.
