Super SEVENTH Badge Drop: Art, Angry Birds, & a Player Pick!

by mariah

WOWZA! You're still GOING GANGBUSTERS on the Summer Game! You've earned 33,138,070 POINTS, and 34,028 badges! Might we make it to 35,000 badges earned this year?! I think it's possible!

And your ranks are GROWING! What do I mean? Well, over the past week we passed the FOUR THOUSAND PLAYER milestone. WHOA. So, obviously, you're not only busy READING, LISTENING, WATCHING and PLAYING the game, but also SPREADING THE WORD about all the fun to be had! Thank you! And... WATCH OUT if you're feeling competitive on that leaderboard, 'cause we've got some NEW SUPER-ENTHUSIASTIC PLAYERS — and that means you'll have to work hard to stay one step ahead!

Speaking of steps - thanks for all the feedback on your wanderings and adventures with the PARK EXPLORER series. We've gotten SUCH positive response that we've also decided to expand it to some other REALLY FUN PLACES to explore that are free (or suggested-donation) around town. Check out the UMMA EXPLORER this week!

For those of you loving park exploration, don't worry, you'll have plenty more badges in the great outdoors, but it IS nice to have some options for rainy (or too-hot/in-need-of-AC) days too! And if you're looking for something a little more WILD-AND-ACTIVE, we've got just the ticket with LIFE-SIZED ANGRY BIRDS this Monday. Of course, there's a BIG badge for that one!

We're excited to be dropping a PLAYER PICK badge too! Veteran player KathyD helped put a little spin on Bunny Hop featuring hoppy critters who are NOT SO CUDDLY. Eeeks! But, rest assured, there are still plenty of WARM FUZZY badges, both in this drop, and yet to come! So keep at it, and...

THANKS FOR PLAYING!

My Melody Usagi Badge

There is only one item in the catalog that matches the final clue in the My Melody badge, but there is no game code. Is the code missing?

@sara @erin @Zekicmom
I've been stuck on that last code; I even just tried what @erin said, but I still can't find it :(....can anyone give me a hint on what to search/how to narrow down my search(s) of "French little red riding hood" or "little red riding hood"?

@estermyer

Ignore the reference to France (it is not important to finding the code), and take out one word from the second phase (see the hint, if you need help). It should be the first thing to pop up when you search the modified phrase. Good luck!

I visited Nicola's Books and found the code, but it didn't work when I entered it. Anyone else have this problem?

Mk31- how did you know to go to Nicolas? At West branch, they directed us to Barry's Bagels, but that's the only way we knew. Is there an Ann Arbor shop badge or list? Thanks!

@RowanEMH there is mention on one of the message boards about the shops that donated coupons for the game, and they all have codes. There are supposed to be 6 total right now, but one shop was never given their code.

I love the park explorer badges! They have gotten me to check out parks outside of my usual stops and I've been having so much fun. I'm excited to see the most recent one will get me back to the UMMA, I haven't been in a while.

I'm having trouble with the Checkout Historian Badge. I've checked out books. Updated the list. I have my card on file. What am I missing?

@Thomas B Brown, are you checking out something you've checked out in the past? You have to check out something that's in your checkout history on your account.

You have to turn your checkout history into a list. I think you just click on the checkout history link on your account page, and then say create a list with it.

Oh hey it's MyMelo,

Yes, I've watched the anime.

Yes, there's an anime.

Most of her friends' names are based on musical terminologies like "Flat" or "Piano"

One more

She had her own claymation show which included: Hello Kitty, Pom Pom Purin, Badtz maru, Cinnamoroll, and herself. Adorable.

I had a really asian childhood.

Hi Summer Gamers,

I tried completing the 2013 Park Explorer Badge for the Arb and was able to find all of the codes except for the very first one. I've put in a request via the contact link. It was a fun badge. My husband and I have been to the Arb before, but there were parts we found that we had never seen. Thank you AADL for the opportunity!

If you haven't done the Dolph Park badge yet- there are 3 entrances and 2 parking areas. I think the correct starting point for the badge is off Wagner Rd. Also, watch for poison ivy.

Thanks for the new cryptography badge! That series and the constellation series are my favorites. :)

I just noticed that UMMA badge last clue is incomplete. The full description is gone for some reason.

Edit: The last line ends with "Four paintings down from those two girls is a painting of someone doing".... I noticed it has not been fixed yet. But I remember it was something about finding the last word on the description.

Oh No! Just printed off the UMMA directions & we're headed there now. What happened to the end of it? Wah!
Thanks for store list...Headed to State St shortly.

Totally stuck on the last code for the Scary Rabbits badge. I feel like we're missing a big pop culture reference. Help please!

The previous clue directs, "Now find a scary rabbit encountered in Caerbonnaog in an often-quoted movie." I would suggest that you search for more information about any words you don't recognize and you'll find it pretty easily.

I found another code from a previous year that has not been reactivated. It's at the Mojo Trippin' page.

A reliable source confirmed today that a Summer Game code was seen in Moosejaw today at 2 pm. Moosejaw is again in possession of a code. I repeat, Moosejaw is again in possession of code!

I'm having trouble with the last code for the fairy badge. Any help is appreciated. Also, are any of the park badges from last year still valid? I tried one of them earlier this month, but the codes weren't valid.

@allishaklausch

I think most codes have been turned back on. If you come across one that doesn't work, you can report it here. They're pretty good about responding and taking care of it.

For the last fairy code, search for "fairies" and what they would be doing in that spot (starts with an "r"). It's the photographer's full name.

Hey, I'm stuck on the Oz Job bonus. I thought the code was:
ukrbstsq lkdndfklrdfsq, but it is not recognized when I enter it. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Thanks!

I changed those two letters for the code, but it still isn't recognized, so I guess the letters aren't o and g, which is what I thought. So frustrating! Oh well. Thanks anyway.

Thank you so much! I see now where my problem was - the source I had copied/pasted the scientific name from was misspelled. I found the correct spelling and entered the code, got the points, earned the bonus. :D Thanks again!

I think the reviews, tags, and stars that are written all year (when summer game is not being played) are counted towards your player total. Is this true library people? If so, it's a way to play the game all year- and people can take the time to write thoughtful reviews. Perhaps next year one-word "reviews" could automatically deduct 50 points from the player who submits them.

I think there's a place for all kinds of reviews. Sometimes, I want a detailed and thought-out review. Other times, I need a quick overview of people's opinions. In these cases, I look for reviews that are a few words or a sentence long. So I think it would be a shame if short reviews were penalized. The reviews I despise though are the ones that are the EXACT same from item to item, but I think the library has put some obstacles in place to prevent such things now.

you cannot give the exact same review and earn points. For example, all the reviews that just say "cool", "cool" cannot be used by that person again and be counted. I found this out by accident. Remarkably, I entered the exact same review twice (I do not do one word reviews and do try to write at least a sentence). But I agree, these types of reviews are highly unhelpful.

@AprilCDB
Thanks for taking a load off my mind. I remember that someone kept posting reviews with 'my daughter loves it' for rainbowmagic books. Good thing I don't have to see any more like that again. Really simple series don't need a review for every book, just maybe the first one, or your favorite one. Hope reviewers of children's books keep that in mind...

I got the player pick.It was difficult for me in the middle because I didn't know how to spell Foo Foo.

@sara Although they did use the term "brussel sprouts," and I've seen lots of "it's" that should be "its." ;) And there was definite confusion over the misspelling at Parker Mill.

I wasn't under the impression that reviews and tags from off-season activities count towards the summer game. If so, I'm thinking my checkout history would be worth more than any of those combined. I rarely bother to review anything, unless I feel strongly about it one way or the other, but I tried my hand at a few this year. I also have only added a few tags to items as a shorthand way to alert other readers to anything surprising about an item that isn't clear from its title or description.

There is absolutely no way I am getting over 100 reviews. I feel like my reviews are becoming crappy and therefor I quit! I will still tag and rate items along with putting them on a list but I am done with reviews.
