I've not eaten a manatee, but did once eat a Dugong. The Australian one. It was tasty. I didn't get a badge, but my dad hit me.

I need help on the first manatee code. I'm searching e******* but there are lots of books about it. Can someone give me a hint that will narrow it down?

I need help with the last muppet.I can't find the book of sketches
the second code to the tiger badge
percy badges still not fixed
can you have the badges pale and full color like last year? for those you finished and not finished?

I am one clue away from completing both the Detroit Tigers badge and Hitchcock badge could someone please help me by giving me one more clue for both that will help me solve them.
Thanks so much
lmd3577

I need help on the manatee badge. I'm pretty sure I have the right relative, but the code wasn't there.

I'm pretty sure I have the right relative too (E*******), in the title of a book, but I've checked 120+ results and don't see the code. Any additional hints out there? Or should I go back over the results b/c I missed it?

Just a note: one of the codes in the Percy badge appears to be out-of-order at the moment. Working on figuring that out. Thanks for your patience, all!

It appears that two of the badges (Missing the Moon and Pappy's Miami Clipper) are not appearing on the badge page at present, FYI.

The third Percy code may be missing from its item, if my interpretation of the clue is correct. It sounds like this is a known issue and is being addressed.

First Manatee code: I'm pretty sure I have the correct species. The four items (2 books, 1 CD, 1 DVD) I find with that title do not have a code. Some other player(s) have said they are working on the third code of that badge, though, so I am confused. Any further help?

Hey cherylo! I'm on the 3rd code of Manatee. I gave up on the 1st code and looked at the hint for the second hint. I was able to get the rest of Manitee, but still can't figure out the first clue. I searched E******* in title of books, which yielded 121 results, and I couldn't find the code in any of them :-( Now, I'm thinking I'm off track.

Cherylo, you are right that the Percy code not appearing where it *should* be is a/the known issue.

For the It's Super-Manatee! badge, I've updated the hint to say "The name of this animal (in its plural form)..." ...if that helps at all!

Thank you! That was a tough one. I assumed the search word was singular because the clue reads "this animal". If you don't want to be so explicit in the hint, consider changing the clue to "these animals"....not complaining; just trying to offer insight from the player's perspective :-) LOVE the Game!!!

Something is definitely up with the hints. On the Percy badge the first code is filled in instead of the hint.

If you're having trouble with the Shirley Temple badge, the imdb web site might be of more help than google.

I am working on finding the final clues for the Detroit Tigers badge and Hitchcock badge and I am having trouble finding the code words for them I am wondering if any body can help me out on where to find them because I have just about looked everywhere and I am totally stumped.
Thanks so much
Lmd3577

The Percy badge displayed the code, instead of giving me a hint. Now, it will not give me any more hints. Also, I found the second code in the Missing the Moon badge, but it will not give me the next clue. Please fix the glitches.

Hello Percy badge seekers!

The case of the missing code is now fixed -- the code is back in the item where it should be -- hurrah!

I'm wondering if folks are still having trouble with the hints on the Percy badge appearing, though?

They are appearing for me now, but if you are still not seeing the hints, please let me know what sort of device and browser you are using and I'll try to troubleshoot that glitch with other staff.

Thanks for your patience on Percy!

I get this error code for the Shirley Temple badge, but it didn't actually give me credit (I had not already used it), so I am stuck on the first hint.

Code "M...P" already redeemed on June 15, 2013, 10:57 am

loving the game again this year. Not much time this week, so I'll need to catch up on the badges later...

I found the item for the first shirley temple code, but it doesn't have the game code. It is the only item I could find that relates to the code.

So disappointed we are missing Kids Read Comics (due to being out of town) - not so much because of the points opportunities but because the entire family had a really great time last year.

Haven't looked at the badge drop yet, but all these mentions of manatee has me singing that Veggie Tales silly song:
Barbara Manatee
You are the one for me
Sent from up above
You are the one I love...

Everyone sing along!

I need help finding the last code in It's Super-Manatee! I'm know I have to search baseball but I don't know what else I'm supposed to search.

A tip on the hard badges.... Don't stay up late doing them, or trying them when you're sleepy( both are similar but by sleepy I mean in the early afternoon after lunch, when people take naps). You need all your wits in taking a crack at them...

Hi again. I hope someone was able to solve the Muppets 4th code after the above clues. Unfortunately, I'm still haven't been able to. Here's the latest:

Informal full name (b-3 letters, m-7 letters), everything - 11 hits, 0 code
Informal full name (same as above) record, CD, Youth - 30 hits, 0 code
*b-3 letters, m-7letters*, CD, Youth - 4 hits, 0 code
*b-3 letters, m-7 letters**lullaby* - 25 hits, 0 code and *b-3 letters, m-7 letters**siesta* - 25 hits ---- thinking one of the threads may have been a clue.

1) Can someone that has found the code confirm that it's still out?
2) If so, can someone help me see what I obviously can't?

Thanks again.

@mcreader: Just search "Sesame Street, which featured this actor, a University of Michigan alumnus" on google. The person (alumnus) is *** *******. Just search it in the catalog (author) and you should get the code.

So, I don't get it. You can still earn points on last years badges that you didn't get? Do the points get applied to this years total?

I just wanted to say that I am so proud of all the hard core game players who have achieved the KRC MegaFan badge. Kids Read Comics is such a wonderful event, it deserves to have SUPERFANS. In 2012, no one at all achieved the analogous Super Fan badge...though I know several people came quite close. This year, several players organized and made it a priority to support KRC and earn that badge. As of this post, nine individuals have achieved that status, and I expect several more may achieve it in the coming days as codes are entered from note sheets. You did great! :APPLAUSE:

Hello I was wondering if anyone would give me hints for KRC alley catcher badge? I have everyone but table 20 and 30.
Next year I'll go both days. Very fun and we have new stuff to read! win-win

Another possibly important thing to note: We hardcore types, and staff members too, have been doing SG (and TreasureQuest and StreetsQuest) for literally years now, so things that seem obvious to us may not be obvious to others. including new players.

I talked to an adult SG player at KRC yesterday who thought that to complete badges, codes were to be found in the actual physical items that the quest riddles and clues reference. That is, she thought that it was necessary to go to a branch that had the item on the shelf to look at it in person to find the code. If this were true, badges might seem completely impossible to complete or at least very resource-intensive, especially when they reference new items or items that have long hold lists. I assured her that the codes for badges are not found attached to the physical items (at least as far as I know!), but are listed in the catalog pages for those items, and showed her where to look. I helped her get going on the Who's Your Tiger badge, and she was off and running.

@eli, @mariah and other staff...this may be something to address in a future badge drop or other blog post. I certainly want the online summer game as inclusive as possible and want to knock down barriers to participation wherever they are found. The online SG is too much fun to keep to ourselves!

@cherylo I think that's a good idea!

Another staff member and I were just talking about a "badges 101/summer game 101" blog post to explain just some of these things. We want to encourage more new people to play (and keep playing!) the game, and so it's a smart idea to continue to make things easy to understand as more and more people decide they want to go from just entering in reading/watching points to actually earning badges!

I need help finding the last code of the Hitchcock badge and I have looked everywhere for the code and I am still stuck could someone please give me one last clue to help me out. I also need help finding the second clue in the pink panther badge I know the answer but when I go search the catalogue for the answer I can't find it I don't know if I am looking the wrong way by looking for the composer himself or his name is the codeword itself I could sure use help on this one also.
thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

For the final Hitchcock code search the catalog for the film mentioned in the clue. In the discription of the movie it mentions the name you are looking for. Search that name in the catalog and you'll find the final code.
I hope this helps, I haven't quite gotten the hang of giving clues that make sense but don't give away too much.

@Lmd3557, I was stuck on the last Hitchcock code for a long time and getting frustrated, too. It turns out I was searching on the wrong pair of names...read the clue carefully (and then do some googling) to get the right names to search on. I find it always helps to go back to the clue and read it as carefully as possible with "beginner mind" (drop assumptions you made in your prior frustrated searching) when you seem to be getting nowhere after a grinding search.

Cherylo: that's what actually happened to me when I first started SG.
I thought the codes were in the actual books...
But then I found a code in the catalog, figured it out, and finally started to play. :)

I really need help finding the second clue word in the oh my gods badge because I have looked virtually everywhere and I can't find it. I also need help on finding the third answer in the Dalmatian badge I am having trouble there to. I hope someone can help me out with both of these answers also.
Thanks so much
lmd3577

Lmd3577: try looking for the museum where the Rosetta Stone is displayed in...
For the Dalmations badge, go to the dog's wiki page and on the upper right there should be a box that shows the dog's other names. One of them should make you think of a food.

I'm having trouble finding the 3rd Percy code...I found something about this magician Pug in a fantasy series, but I've looked through all the materials related to him and nothing's come up. Any ideas?

For everybody who just wants to chat there is a new chat section of the reading game you can go to just to chat. I am having trouble finding answers to all the questions I ask about code words that I need to find. I don't mean to come off as being upset but it does get frustrating looking for responses to code word clue questions when there are also chats going on with one word or several nonsensical words. Please if you just want to chat to one another use the chat section.
Thanks so much
lmd3577

@vadnala: You probably already know the series (magic!), and the game code is right under the tags. You should look again, and if you search the right thing, the code will be the first entry. (below the tags)

Just a quick note to let all of you know that the empty list problem has been solved (hurrah!). If those players want to come back and create lists with real, helpful things on them, then great! Otherwise, both the lists and points have been taken down.

Thanks to all of you who are playing in a helpful, legit way. Sounds like overall folks are having FUN! :D

I am still working on the final clue word to the Hitchcock badge and I am still having trouble finding the answer and I have tried referring to all the posts that have giving me clues to help me out but I am still having trouble so if anyone can give me a clue that will help me out further that would be helpful. I am also looking for clue to the second answer of the muppets bage and the third clue to the Percy badge so if you can help me out with those it would helpful.
Thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

If you've found the film with the murder mentioned in the clue, then one of the tags on it has the two last names and "murder" in it. Try searching one name at a time, and check for the code on the CDs. Good luck!

I am now working on the Pappi's airline badge and I am having great trouble finding the first code word I found the anwser to Pappi's first name but I am having great trouble finding the code word. I hope some one out there can help me find the code word.
Thanks so much,
lmd3577

I am almost done working on the baby animals badge. I am having great trouble finding the final code word. I hope someone out there can help me find the final code word.
Thanks so much
lmd3577

The first code in the Shirley Makes Her Mark badge still will not allow me to redeem it. It says that the code was already redeemed on June 17th, which it wasn't. Please fix the glitch soon.

Hi Commander Taffy - library staff here - if the computer says you redeemed it already you definitely did. It's possible you found a clue from an earlier Shirley badge - or just a clue out of order. No glitches in this case!

I am working on several badges that I need help on and I hope someone could help me.

1) first I need the third clue to help me with the Sputnik badge

2) second I need the final and fourth clue in the baby animals badge

3) third I need help on the third code word for the Percy badge

4) fourth I need help on finding the second clue to the muppet badge

5) I need help on finding the second code word for the Luna 1 badge

6) and sixth I need help on finding the very first code word for the air ways airboat badge

@vadnala & @Lmd3577

For the third Percy clue, it may not be the first Percy that comes to your head. I don't want to give *too* much away, but the Percy in this case is not the hybrid character in question. This Percy's personality is much like the dog's personality - a little full of himself. If you STILL can't get it we'll see what we can do. I just don't want to give too much away for those who still like a challenge.

@Lmd3577 -

Have you tried looking any of those clues up on like Wikipedia or with Google or another search engine? I know that's how I found the answers for the Sputnik, Muppet, Luna 1 & Airboat badge clues that you're having trouble with. If you have tried that, can you perhaps give a little more info about what you tried and found/did not find? I don't want to give too much away in helping, but rather give you just enough to find the answers. Yet, I don't want to leave you stumped either if I *can* help.

Hope that helps a bit. If not, we'll see what else we can do to help.

I tried searching the following:

full formal name of person (from wikipedia) - 0 matches
full informal name of person, youth, cd - 4 matches, 0 code
1st name, youth, cd - 25 matches, 0 code
last name, youth, cd - 4 matches, 0 code
toddler, cd - 9 hits, 0 code
sesame street, cd - 22 hits, 0 code
1st name, muppet, cd - 1 hit, 0 code
muppet, cd - 8 hits, 0 code

Am I searching incorrectly?

@mcreader - I think there might have been a small problem with the record itself. Try it again tomorrow morning (I think something needs to reset overnight) with the full informal name of the person. You may have better luck.

Sorry to sound dense but I used the advance search, typed what u wrote (bert and ernie...) as keyword, age= youth, format=cd. It came up w/ 1309 matches. Chose the first one : Harry and the Potters...but no code. AAARRGG---can you or someone help further? Thanks for any assistance.

Yes I have googled and wiki up the answers but when I type in the supposed answer I can get hundreds if not thousands of answers so I don't know where I an going wrong. Thanks for the advice and I will keep on looking for the answers.

@Lmd3577 - If you're putting in the proper search term, be it the person's name or a place or whatever and you're paying close attention to what the clue says, you shouldn't get hundreds and thousands of answers because the clue will often tell you how to filter your search. It may tell you to look for a youth book or a movie or something unrelated to the subject you're reading about. You may get 10 or 20 or even 50 results but if you're pretty sure you have the right person/thing, don't give up unless you've gone through at least the first 15 or 20 because the code isn't always in the first or second item on the list.

The baby animal one you're stuck on in particular is one of those that you think you've got it but, if you're like me, what you actually have is something in the same series which has a cover that looks very similar to what you are actually looking for.

The Percy one, we should've provided plenty of clues above for you to find it.

The Muppet one - the Wikipedia page for the character in question should provide you with the answer you need to search in the catalog.

Luna 1 - 2nd code deals with a pretty famous Italian astronomer. Go back and re-read the clue to see how you can filter your search down more so you're looking for a specific type of item.

The Air way airboat badge - I think I figured out the actual name of the airline that got its start in 1917 and then looked on Wikipedia for that for the person's name. Then, again, go back and re-read the clue as it'll give you a hint on how to filter your search.

The Sputnik one, I'm not sure where you're lost - since the 3rd clue/code word requires using pieces from the 2nd clue/code word which you've seemingly gotten. Perhaps re-reading the clue will help on that one too, I'm not sure.

Hopefully that gives you a little nudge on what to do without giving too many spoilers for others. :)

I'm having trouble finding the 4th code for the Muppet badge. Is there more than one person that fits the criteria of who I'm looking for? I'm pretty sure I have the right person, but I am not finding the right item (or that many to choose from when I narrow it to the specific item I'm looking for).

Me too....I'm also pretty sure I have the right person but the code isn't in any of the CDs

and it says for me that a code was already redeemed-first Shirley Makes Her Mark code, but it didn't give me the points and if I delete it from my scorecard and re-enter the code it still doesn't give me any points or credit for the code(on the badges page it says 0/4 even though I entered the code....)
seems like the same problem Commander Taffy had but why didn't it give me the next clue and fill in the ????????? for the game code?
Help?

I had the same problem at first for the 2nd Shirley Temple badge. There is a code in the item that you'd think would be what you want but it is not for the 2nd badge. You have to dig a bit deeper through the catalog.

I, too am having problems with the fourth code of the Muppets badge. I do know the alum's name but I guess from previous threads, I'm searching incorrectly. What's the best way to approach this?

With all these people asking for help, it's no wonder that the Muppets badge is rated expert.

I'm another night owl with a later work schedule. I guess I will try again on the muppet badge in the morning though. I feel a bit better that something may be off with the item and code.

Hi Guys,
vlong and mcreader were right on the name -- and vlong was right on that there was some strange problem with the catalog record.

Since that item in the catalog is still a bit glitchy, I've updated the clue and put the game code in another catalog record item, just to be safe!

So, in other words -- if you've been trying to get that last code, search again right now/this morning for songs by this UM alum and you will see the code hidden in another of his recordings! Good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm glad to know I had been on the right track. Thanks vlong for alerting the IT staff about it and thanks mariah for adding a fix.

We LOVE all of our Summer Game players and hate it when glitches get in the way!
Glad everything is fixed now, and thanks again to vlong for the alert! : )

if there was confusion, there would be plenty of people commenting to correct the mistake. Nothing to be very guilty about if you cause confusion.
You know, maybe I should gather up all the Muppets clues into one big comment so people won't have to sift through everything...

I actually think the muppets one isn't actually that difficult, you just need to read the clues well and find the codes. (Without the technical problems) But now AADL fixed the thing, so the muppets one should be easier. :)

I have been working on both the Sputnik and Luna1 badges and I am having great trouble finding the final code words in both badges could anyone help me out with some clues on where to find them.

I also have been having a great time finding the first clue in the Pappi airways badge could anyone help me with a clue to help me out on that one also.
Thanks so much
lmd3577

I am also having trouble with the first Pappi code. I think I have the his first and last name, but I'm not sure. Are the initials "A. B."? If they are, should I go through every item that shows up when I search the name? If it's not the right name, does anyone have any advise for finding the right name?

I have some questions about the Textulating Recognizorator Mode. First of all, exactly how is it helping make sure the scanned text is correct when only one word is highlighted? Next, if the word is all caps, do you want it typed that way? Or, for example, I was given the word "its" but only the "it" was highlighted, so do you want it or its to be typed by the reviewer? I am willing to help, but I want to do it correctly.

if you go to 'My Players' and go to the 'Summer Game 2013' section, there'll be a link saying "See all Summer Game 2013 badges' or something like that. Usually most of the new badges on fridays appear there about few hours before the official badge drop!

Wow. I finally found the third Percy code. I can't believe I was having so much trouble with it. Thanks for patiently giving obvious hints even though I couldn't understand them...For anyone else still working on the badge, Percy #3 is just a Percy, not another pug.

Well, for some reason I haven't been playing Summer Game recently... Which is probably why I've been slipping down the leaderboard.

In reply to by gxl

Thanks!

I assume it's a way to demonstrate to the administration how many Summer Game players/aficionados there are and how awesome we all are. :) Or maybe the admin staff are lonely up in the quiet of the fourth floor. :)

The first floor is the books and CDs, the second floor is the laptops and the reference, the third floor is where KRC was, what is on the 4th floor?
edit: ...

The 4th floor is home to mostly staff offices - particularly administration, conference rooms and the big room where the library board (and the AAPS school board) holds their meetings. There are staff offices in the non-public areas on the other floors too. :)

On the subject of badges, I think they should have the badges' colors be pale then clear when you finish a badge, like last year. they are like that on the badges page, but not on the posts.

I am stuck on the second clue for the "Who's your Tiger?" badge. I don't understand the hint at all... "picture the past." Do I have the wrong league in mind? The league I'm think of is a pretty major one.
I'm also stuck on the last "Pink Panther" code. Does anyone have any advice for me for either of those badges?
Thanks!

@yaldah, MLB is made up of two leagues, and the one the tigers are a part of is the one you want. I think you have MLB instead of one of the components. The "picture the past" is a hint having to do with the fact that the book in question has a lot of illustrations, and its title tells you so.

As for the Pink Panther last code...I am familiar with the person being referred to; at first I was looking for a CD (because I knew he recently had a CD come out...in fact I was lucky to see him on the current promotion tour for that CD with Edie Brickel and band SCR since this badge drop happened.), but it's not music you are looking for. You want a book, of this renaissance man's collected works, sort of.

@cherylo: Thank you so much! I earned both the badges. You were right about the league I was searching for.
For the Pink Panther code, I had actually been searching for DVDs... I don't know how I thought so, but I had somehow or other misread the clue over and over... Well, anyway, thanks again!
