Streets Quest #9: Mayday, Mayday!

by andrewjmac

Sorry, don't be alarmed. Just another Quest! This time zee Germans are coming. Or rather, they came. There's a lot to learn about Ann Arbor's German past, and this Quest will get you started. If you look around town, you'll see German stuff all over the place. A few of the names in this Quest you'll recognize, a few you won't. Some of the words might trip you up, too, but don't let the German expressionism stop you. We're getting closer to the end of Streets Quest, and few people have kept up, falling to a Glass Gazing here, an Old Newsmaker there. Let the Germans shepherd you on to Quest victory:

From Swabia came one groß migration;
So much came to our town from one nation!
Find one German last name
That brought Ann Arbor fame
With his musical organ-ization.

So I'm having problems reading what I think is the answer to the first OO#9 questions.
Did anyone else have trouble reading the blurry mess or am I looking close at the wrong panel?

Will there be another installation of the Streets Quest for June? Or is May the last installment?

When will the summer game start this year? Are there any teasers you can publish yet? How will our Streets Quest Participation factor in to the 2013 summer game?

I really have been enjoying the streets quest. I moved here 9 years ago, and I've learned so much about Ann Arbor from this game that my friends who grew up in town are even impressed!

For GG8#2, I tried a whole bunch of names but none of them fly. I don't know if I am looking at the right building. For GG9#3, the website name doesn't work. Is it something else I should be entering as code? I can really use some help figuring these.

@rimpopu:

for GG8#2 - there is a sign on the building with the name they are looking for (beware, the address on the sign is NOT the address you usually associate with that building, but the name on the sign is the code). Only way I found it was by going there. The clue gives you the old name of the building so you can double check you've got the right building.

for GG9#3 - make sure you include the "com" when you enter the code. There are several websites that could fit the clue, so if one doesn't work, keep trying. Google search brings it up, though it wasn't first on the list with my search terms.

@SarahRose -

FIrst off, are we talking about the 2nd clue (2nd code) for glass gazing, or the 3rd? #2's clue starts with the words, "If questing is". But #3's clue starts, "There STILL is". I'm assuming you're actually talking about #3.

The only clue I can give you is that this is one of the glass gazing clues that I was able to get without going to the building. A general internet search engine can get you the answer to this one. If I get to the building anytime soon, I'll post whether or not I saw the code printed on a sign on the building somewhere. Good luck

ps: I verified that the code is not broken.

This doesn't really have to do with Streets Quest, but has anyone heard anything about Summer Game 2013?

Hey Questers,

This isn't the last Streets Quest. Streets Quest #10 will come out on June 1. Hopefully that will keep you busy for a couple of weeks because Summer Game 2013 starts June 14! I can tell you to look forward to all the great gameplay from previous years and even better stuff in the Summer Game Shop than you've seen before. Keep your eyes on play.aadl.org for info as it comes out!

Andrew

Yay for Summer Game 2013! Please don't release the badges for individual library codes in the last week of Summer Game this time!
Now to try thinking of an excuse to go downtown and finish all my Glass Glazing....

Thanks andrewjmac! I'm really looking forward to June. I hope there will be good things to come in the Summer Game 2013 for those of us who have completed the Streets Quest!

Anyone know what this is about?
"So keep your eyes glued to http://play.aadl.org FOREVER so you'll be sure not to miss anything awesome, including our detailed SUMMER GAME STATS WRAPUP..."
eli said this at the end of Summer Game 2012.

I know we've moved on to the summer game, but it's making me crazy that I didn't quite finish Street Quest. I'm stuck on ON9 #4. I must have read everything about Ann Arbor Central Mills that exists, but can't seem to find the correct code. Any hints for me?

I've found that in Old News, a slight variation in your search terms makes a huge difference in what you get back. For example, long ago in Old News, a photo came up if part of your search term was "boys" but not if it was "children". See what I mean?

So use search terms from the clue itself, exactly as written. One set of terms brings up the right entry - this thing is an "ad", though it's not top of the list using the terms I used. Good luck!

Visit the right Ann Arbor Streets panel online to begin the first part of your quest:

For their heritage, these Volk had inate pride
But felt their new home, too, had a great side:
Where they made those Klaviers
Is a banner quite clear
In urging for purchases stateside.

I am TOTALLY stumped on this one. The Volk was people or folk and klaviers are pianos. I can't find any picture at all. HELP
