AADL & TheRide Offer Free Ride Saturdays With Your Library Card

AADL and the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) are partnering this summer to provide Free Ride Saturdays during the AADL Summer Game!

Every Saturday from June 17 - August 26, library cardholders can ride any of TheRide local fixed-route buses for free. All you need to do is show the driver your library card when boarding the bus!

While riding, look for the AADL Summer Game code sign inside the bus and win 1,000 points to trade in for awesome Summer Game Shop prizes. Each bus has the same code inside the bus, so it's easy to find! When you see it, text the code to 4AADL (42235) or visit play.aadl.org to enter the code and get 1,000 points.

TheRide and AADL have created fun ways to get even more Summer Game prizes:
• Find the code featured on the outside of several buses for 500 points.
• Find the code hidden on TheRide.org on the MyAlerts Service page (which you can get to by clicking on "All Alerts" directly from the homepage) for 500 points.

Find all the codes to earn the Ride Master Badge and a 500 point bonus!

The AADL Summer Game is a great way to enjoy your summer and to ride TheRide for free! For more information on TheRide's routes and schedules, pick up a Ride Guide or visit TheRide.org.

Teens! Come volunteer at the AADL this summer!

Hey teens! Come volunteer at the AADL this summer! It’s a great way to meet people, see some cool behind-the-scenes stuff at the library, and earn volunteer hours! If you're between the ages of 14 and 18, all you need to do is fill out the form at www.aadl.org/teenvolunteer, have a parent or guardian sign the permission slip that you’ll link to via that page, and then come to any of the five orientations taking place throughout the summer. At these orientations, you’ll learn about what volunteering entails and have the chance to sign up for the opportunities you want to help with, including program prep work, stocking summer game orders, and assisting with a variety of programs themselves. If you’d like more information or have questions, email teenvolunteer@aadl.org. Hope to see you this summer!

Psst! It's also a great way to get lots and lots of summer game codes, since every program you help with will have its own code!

Are you missing the Summer Game? Here are two ways to help!

GREETINGS PLAYERS! Can you believe it's December? Winter is here, which means we are almost halfway to SUMMER and the exciting return of AADL's SUMMER GAME! Here at Summer Game HQ, we've got a lot of new things in the hopper, including the still-simmering and long-awaited launch of DOWNLOAD QUEST, coming in January to tide you over until June! But in the meantime, we've got 2 great ways you can fill that SUMMER GAME SHAPED VOID in your lives by helping make Summer Game -- and badging in general -- better!

First, we're working this semester with some University of Michigan Ross School of Business Undergrads from the BOND Consulting Club on a real economic model for the Summer Game to help us make some sense of this crazy planned economy we've concocted! One of the things the BOND team is looking for is some hard data on how much time players spend on different summer game actions. So, if you've got 5 minutes, please help us out by taking this survey:

BOND Summer Game Time Survey

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! As you might know, Badging is HOT HOT HOT in education right now. There's lots of attention and desire to understand why people like badges so much! So, a local researcher is doing a study on Badges and is looking for participants. If you're jonesing for more badgey goodness, this might be just the ticket! To find out more and get involved, check out this blog post at BadgeBox for more details. The deadline to get involved with the survey is December 16th, and you'll need permission from your adults if you're not one.

Hopefully that will tide you over a bit! Stay tuned for DOWNLOAD QUEST coming at last in January, and hang in there... SUMMER GAME 2014 is only SIX MORE MONTHS away!

THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Find some codes, read some books, play some games, get some points and trade them in for great stuff like this, delivered to the branch of your choice! It's super fun all summer... DON'T MISS IT!

Looking Forward to SUMMER GAME 2012!

You've waited patiently all winter long. You've played the POINTS-O-MATIC CLICK-O-TRON and TREASURE QUEST to tide you over. Now, the plants are budding, the weather is nicer, and you feel it coming: Summer Game 2012!

But what will Summer Game 2012 be this year? Could there be codes hidden in the catalog and around the library? Could there still be badges to earn by hunting deep in the library website? Points for reading, listening, or watching media? Or for going to events, tagging and reviewing items in the catalog, or even just for checking out library items?

YOU BETTER BELIEVE THERE WILL BE!

This year's Summer Game will have all the great things about last year's game, with a healthy dose of new stuff thrown in: all new codes, all new badges, all new items in the Summer Game Shop, all new ways to earn points! AND this year there will be some new features, too: Teams! Tokens! What can those be?

You'll find out soon: Summer Game 2012 starts June 15! Be sure to get on the website the first day to start earning points, make your way to the top of the leaderboard, and try to stay king of the mountain until the game ends August 31! Earning enough points will get you ready to make purchases from the Summer Game Shop when it opens on July 2 (and for everybody who played last year, you still have all of your leftover points to spend, too). And if you missed last year's game, don't worry: you can still earn some of last year's badges and get some of last year's points when Summer Game 2012 starts.

Summer Game 2012! It's a whole new ball game! PLAY!
