It's a great time to be citizens, patriots, and Summer Gamers! Independence Day weekend! FIREWORKS! PARADES! And what could be more American than BADGES!!

AADL VIDEO "WHAT IS THE SUMMER GAME?" WINS NATIONAL AWARD
This past weekend, on Sunday June 28, at a special ceremony in San Francisco, AADL received the American Library Association's PR Xchange Award from the Association's Public Relations and Marketing Section.
AADL received this national award for the "What Is The Summer Game?" video, winning in the category highlighting Reading Programs. The video was produced by 7 Cylinders Studio for AADL.

Do you have ANY IDEA what's in store for you guys? Can you even begin to comprehend the sort of AWESOMENESS that we're about to lay on you? We've watched you guys blow this game out of the WATER this year, racking up the points like they're currency (WHICH THEY WILL BE), and we've decided that such unbelievably diligent badge-hunting deserves a reward. Not just BRAND NEW BADGES, which we've spent all week polishing up nice and shiny, just for you, but with TWO COMPLETELY BRAND-SPANKING NEW BADGE SERIES!
I know, you're probably all shouting, "FOR US? Why, you shouldn't have!" But we did, so get into it!

Goats, Lizards, Comics, Bears -- It Could Only Be BADGE DROP #2!

So I'm not sure if you guys noticed, but the Summer Game is going on.
JUST KIDDING! OF COURSE you noticed, we can tell because of how many of you are scoring SO MANY POINTS and earning SO MANY BADGES! 2781 players playing! 6573 badges earned!! 10,051,623 points--I had to double-check that because it seems UNBELIEVABLE, but it's TRUE! So, as a special reward for being AWESOMELY AWESOME, the Summer Game team has decided to DROP SOME BADGES ON YOU! Also, it's Friday, and we don't know any other way to be.
We've also got a change to how you get points for downloading from our catalog. When you download a book, song, album, video, pattern, WHATEVER from our catalog, you'll get 100 points for the first 10, 90 points for the next 10 and so on. So your points for downloading top out at 5500 for the season. Hopefully this will give everyone a chance to ENJOY those downloads before moving on to the next one!
This week's Badge Drop has a CRAZY VARIETY of stuff for you, including little lizards, Josie's goats, and the very first Arbor Explorer badge of the year, courtesy of Summer Game player sara!

SUMMER GAME 2015 has been ACTIVATED (can you hear its engine revving?), and is READY TO GO!
This year brings you:
- Simplified BRANCH MASTER BADGES. ALL codes required for these big time badges are already placed branches — so you'll have the ENTIRE SUMMER to get all the codes. Nice, right? You could even start TODAY! Though, remember, Downtown doesn’t re-open ’til tomorrow at 9am!
- 2000 POINTS for COMPLETING THE PAPER GAME (Summer Game Classic)! 1000 for the completion code, another 1000 for the badge you’ll earn!
- Plenty of GREAT NEW BADGES starting with BADGE DROP #1 coming around 5 PM today! Eeeeee!
- TOTALLY RAD PRIZES — including BIG LEGO banks, to-go tea tumblers, SUPER SPECIAL “sketch” bags (custom-designed by four cartoonists!), and of course, the RETURN of a few faves: the popular picnic blanket, quality coffee and chocolate! Plus, more, more, more…STAY TUNED!

Over 500 of you summer game SUPER-GENIUSES have scored points and there’s some absolutely INTENSE code-hunting going on at the branches! You guys are absolutely ASTONIGHING! Seriously STUPEFYING! Summer Game WIZARDS, that’s what you are! For the past 9 hours you guys have been TAGGING, REVIEWING, LISTING, and especially COMMENTING up a storm to let us know JUST how excited you are that SUMMER GAME 2015 is finally, finally (FINALLY) here!

Teens! Come volunteer at the AADL this summer!

Hey teens! Come volunteer at the AADL this summer! It’s a great way to meet people, see some cool behind-the-scenes stuff at the library, and earn volunteer hours! If you're between the ages of 14 and 18, all you need to do is fill out the form at https://aadl.org/teenvolunteer, have a parent or guardian sign the permission slip that you’ll link to via that page, and then come to any of the five orientations taking place throughout the summer. At these orientations, you’ll learn about what volunteering entails and have the chance to sign up for the opportunities you want to help with, including program prep work, stocking summer game orders, and assisting with a variety of programs themselves. If you’d like more information or have questions, email teenvolunteer@aadl.org. Hope to see you this summer!
