Part of the SummerGame2017 Game

This time around we're talking about a method of communication so famous, everyone forgets that it was only in operation for 19 months: the Pony Express! Started in April 1860, the Pony Express was actually a set of stations set up across the frontier starting in St. Joseph, Missouri, and ending in San Francisco where a rider with a mail pouch could switch horses or hand the pouch off to another rider. This cross-country relay system allowed messages to be delivered in as little as 10 days (which was fast then)! There were 184 stations along the Pony Express--too many for us to hit each one, so we'll get some famous horses to help us skip a bit and just do one station in each division. (You're going to find the list of Pony Express Stations on this page very helpful for this badge.) We'll head out from St. Joe and go right to Rock Creek. A famously wild outlaw got one of his first kills there and thereafter assumed his new moniker, the one we know him by today. He became so famous that they even made a TV show about him. Track down the horse he rode in on in episodes of that show and find it in the catalog!
