Let's face it: most ghosts don't really have much going on. There's a lot of moaning, some light redecorating, and the truly industrious ones might write some things on walls. But the most motivated of ghosts usually have one thing on their minds: REVENGE! Let's delve into some ghosts who lent a hand in catching their own killers. We'll start with one of the most famous inspectres in history, the Greenbrier Ghost. Zona Heaster Shue was found dead at the bottom of the stairs of the house she shared with her new husband, Erasmus Trout Shue. He was grief-stricken, taking care of her by dressing her in her favorite stiff-necked dress, giving her a pillow in her coffin, even...violently frightening a doctor who was doing a post-mortem. So she was buried and all was fine for a month. Then Zona's ghost arrived to inform her mother that her husband had broken her neck. This was enough to get an investigation started, including exhuming the body, which turned out indeed to have a broken neck. The testimony of Zona's mother, ghostly visitation and all, was the key to getting Shue convicted of the murder. Zona has an official West Virginia state historical marker, identifying her as the "only known case in which testimony from a ghost helped convict a murderer." This fall a novel based on Zona's murder comes out; find it for your first code!
