Badge Drop #12: The FINAL Four!

by mariah

WHOA. Summer Gamers, it seems like just yesterday we were kicking off our SG shenanigans, slipping on our flip-flops and looking ahead at a nice, long summertime full of sun, fun, reading, watching, CODES and, (of course!) BADGES.

But — EEEK! — those early days FLEW right by as we all got fully immersed in Kids Read Comics, Summer Fest, the LEGO Contest and reading, watching and listening!

So now we're at Badge Drop #12, with just under FOUR days (the rest of today, Saturday, Sunday and Monday — until MIDNIGHT) left to EARN TONS OF POINTS and collect ALL THE BADGES YOU POSSIBLY CAN!

If you CAUGHT BADGE FEVER long ago, and have been been working away at each series, today's Badge Drop is ESPECIALLY exciting for YOU. WHY, you ask? Well, because it rewards you for things YOU'VE ALREADY DONE! Pretty cool, eh? So, if you've already visited ALL of the branches, you'll ALREADY have the BRANCH MASTER EXPLORER! If you've been BEARY GOOD at keeping up, you'll have the MASTER OF BEAREMONIES badge! Likewise, if you've hunted down all the LEGO around town, you're a MASTER LEGO QUESTER. Whoohoo! And of course, there are still a few more days to become MASTER OF THE BADGE-I-VERSE!

Don't worry quite yet about spending all those points you've been wracking up — THE SHOP will remain open until Monday, September 14. Beyond that, you'll have until the end of October to pick up your orders.

Oh! And we LOVE bringing Summer Gamers together, so don't miss our wrap-party, the — SUMMER GAME 2015 GAME OVER GALA — this coming Monday (8/31), from 6-8 pm in the Downtown Library Lobby. SEE YOU THERE?

Oh, and AS ALWAYS, whether we get to see you in person Monday or not...
THANKS FOR PLAYING!

My badges show I got them but my points aren't showing. I know sometimes you need to do something to trigger it, so let's try that.

As I finished my last badge last night it was definetly a bit of a sad moment. The end of summer and summer fun but then excitement and anticipation to all the wonderful ideas I know the AADL staff will come up for next year!

I'm so sad that this is the last badge drop. It was very bittersweet finishing up my last badges last week. I saved one for this weekend because I knew I would be lost without my summer game!

It was challenging to figure out how to get to the wind turbine one, and we enlisted the kind valet parking team at the Gandy Dancer for their navigational suggestions. We tried and gave up on the Minecraft. I didn't see the referenced signs anywhere, oh well.

For the wind turbine, we parked at the riverside park parking lot, walked to the bridge, and crossed over into broadway park. I didn't want to mess with finding parking on the other side of the river.

I couldn't figure out where the bridge was, and it was raining. Eventually we parked in the lot by Amtrak and the Gandy Dancer and then up stairs and along the bridge and back down again. It was very tempting to try to cross the railway tracks, because I could see it, so so so close, but no! Don't do it, fellow library game players! There must be a reason for those warning signs.... I sure didn't want to be struck by a train and miss the Game Over Gala, not to mention the rest of my life!

Anyway it was kind of tricky, that one, and the park explorer badges definitely take a fair amount of time, but I really don't think I heard about this project, and only would have encountered the canoe art at Gallup Park without going to look for it.

That's what we did - we managed to walk right by the painting in Riverside Park, but as we kept going down the path we saw the turbine sculpture on the other side of the river and figured we might as well cross over to get that. We (Daughter and I) couldn't get it to spin though! Maybe it doesn't like hot, muggy weather?

We ended up kind of foiled by the Bandemer Park one - it was only after we gave up for the day that we saw someone's comment that that directions in the badge were bad. So I'm missing that one, the Grad Library Lego installation, and the Minecraft badge (I wonder if it had been vandalized at some point? we couldn't even find the signs for the first code, and it was stuck at "10 people have earned this badge" for a long time, but now more people have earned it.) All in all I'm satisfied (and I love the messenger bag and the lunch pod. :) )

@keebs23
Yes! I do the same thing! There was one explore Ann Arbor badge that I didn't get last year, and it was very gratifying to finish it up and get that 2014 master explorer badge, even a year late.

Oh, how bittersweet seeing the notifications for getting some Master Badges! On one hand, yay, badges and points! On the other, it means I'm out of virtual scavenger hunts to do, and the game is over.

Well, guess I should check the shop, maybe get a cool gift or two. Thank you, AADL Summer Game team, and Friends of AADL.

Players please help me with the Body Electorate badge. I don't know what video to watch to get the code. Please help.

I wish I could have played more Summer Game this year, but The Holiday Rush has Begun Already, and work has Eaten My Life.

go on without me, summer gamers

i'll always be here in my heart

On the inside I cry as the Summer Game ends, longing for the day we begin again. It's been fun, AADL.

As of a few minutes ago, I've officially finished all the badges that are possible for me to complete this year. I wish I could get that minecraft one though so I could get the Jan's Quest Master. Alas, I will forever be one badge short of that master badge. I suppose it's a good lesson for the completionist in me. Maybe.

@SBNB
I am in the same boat. I only need the Minecraft badge to finish that series, and I'm a little bummed about it. I'm also only missing pollcat, and the kids comic badges. I forget about thoes every year, I'm vowing to attend next year though!

It was wonderful of you summer game gods and goddesses to make the red herring badge NOT part of the master badge.

I am now 69 comments away from the comment master badge!

Edit: Oops! 68 comments!

@GuerrieoAdam
I try not to comment unless it's worth the time and space. There are some people who comment way more then I do, especially when other players ask for help. Just like there are some players who seem to ask for badge help more then others. I enjoy the sense of community, and hope my comments contribute in a meaningful way!

Sorry, need 40 points to regain my lead board position and this will give me 50 points.

I kinda don't want to say right now, because at this point I want to keep my standing, and it's probably going to be tough as the person behind me isn't that far behind.

I just finished the last badge that I know I can get before game ends tomorrow.

My game code is out there and we are friends Adam.

No problem, no harm in asking.

Just checked with my husband, sounds like we'll try and make the gala tomorrow. We have something else going on until 6, so it'll be a busy night if we do go.

So, we are all down to the wire, and starting to sweat! I just dropped a few places on the leaderboard also, and I'm calculating how to get my points to catch up! the end is nigh!

@sarai-koster-mo, I know what you mean. I'm sure the person who's on my tail is watching closely trying to best me, while I try and maintain my standing (I know I won't catch the person in front of me).

@AprilCDB
Okay.

It's nice having the last week badges being automatically applied ---- no clues to solve --- let the computer do the work!! = )
I look forward to tonight!

Phew, I managed to get one last badge, and I thought I was doomed because I kept putting the key word in a catalog search when it wanted me to just enter it as a code, and I was going crazy trying to search through either zero results or many (which of course didn't have the code). Down to the wire!

My dear Gamers-In-Arms,

I am disappointed, but I won't be able to attend the gala. I'd really like to meet other Summer Gamers but it's just not possible for me tonight.

I hope everyone has fun, and don't rack up TOO many points with the on-site codes and swapping even more friend codes - I foresee some major upset in the leaderboard possible, and we don't want such chaos now, do we? DO WE?

Just kidding - mostly...I'm working on tuning down the competitive streak about it that I didn't even have until I realized I was in the top 25. (ETA: And honestly, I've been doing a lot of listing because I am just a total geek that way and find it really fun. It's not just for racking up points.)

Seriously, have a wonderful time!

I wish I didn't care what my standing is on the leaderboard, but I admit, I kinda do..... I think I'm probably going to have to remind myself later that this is only a game, and enjoying playing it is the most important thing.

I wish I didn't care about my standing either, but when you start hitting certain thresholds, I feel like I need to maintain that. "Oh?! I'm Top 25? Wow! HEY! WAIT A MINUTE, WHO JUST KNOCKED ME DOWN TO 26th?" then I start working towards more points to regain 25th and before I know it I'm Top 20 and they cycle repeats until end game.

In the end, it doesn't really matter. It's all about having fun. But that little competitive devil just keeps coming out.

I find myself getting very competitive about points and the leaderboard standing! Last year I managed to stay in the top 100, this year it's been the top 20. I'm already planning out how I can get in, and stay in the top 10 next year!

I have posted my friend code in this thread:

What's This? A NEW FEATURE appears: FRIEND CODES!

But if you didn't read that thread, here it is again:

Can we keep solving badges after the game ends (I'm thinking particularly of the badges that involve searching the AADL catalog)? I thought I remembered something about getting fewer points if you do badges after the game ends.

In the past the codes have been disabled when the game ended, but reactivated at the lower point value when the next year's game started.

@crwilley
I never really knew that the points went down each year!

THANK YOU!! AADL employees and teen volunteers you all rock!! This was my first year playing summer game and I had a blast. Having been homebound for nearly two years after a devastating illness you helped my recovery tremendously. You got me out of the house and getting some much needed exercise in the way of park exploring. You helped me overcome my fear of public speaking by way of the library board meeting speech badge. You helped me gain a tremendous amount of knowledge by way of online badges. You helped me learn my way around the streets better by way of lego and art box searches. You helped me gain a few new friends by way of commenting on posts you released. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my summer. My hats off to you all!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!

Red Herring Badge. Oy. Painful. Done. Except for this evening. Whew.

Thanks to the amazing Summer Game staff for the fun at the gala tonight!

It was so nice to see everyone and have time to chat (and exchange friend codes!), and the cookies were delicious! :) The downtown library looks fantastic, and what a fun way to tour it.

The gameover gala was loud. I couldn't concentrate. THE SUMMER GAME IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

Does anyone know if the names code part of the game is only for the summer or does it go on after the game is over tonight

All of the scoring for the game - including friend codes - ends tonight at midnight. The next chance to redeem the friend codes will be in June 2016! It was great to see everyone tonight and match the names to faces! Thanks for playing!

Had a great time at the gala tonight!! Thank you again AADL!! Thank you to all my new "summer game friends"!!

Great badges this year, creators! Favorites...All Fall Down, Etymologies, and Points Unknown. Good stuff! THANK YOU!

A big THANK YOU to all AADL staff and volunteers involved with the Summer Game! I saw some parts of the city that I've never seen before, and had a blast doing it.

For those of you anticipating Summer Game Withdrawal, remember that you can always turn to Points-O-Matic for off-season fun! Not quite as much fun as solving badges or hunting down public art, but it will fill up idle moments when you'd otherwise be mindlessly surfing the web...
http://play.aadl.org/pointsomatic

So I think I misread the clue in the Lego display at the library about Frank Lloyd Wright. Am I looking for the city that Fallingwater is in? Or something else? I wish they had a picture of it available online. Thanks!

Okay, I'm waving the white flag. I have to make my peace with not reaching the top 50. I know if I'd been at the gala I'd have gotten enough points to put me there, but alas, it wasn't ment to be. I'm not going to stay up until midnight chasing points. Thanks again, and good night.

I saw the points o matic and tried doing them, even got a badge or two... but don't really understand what they all are... :-/

Does anyone know if you can redeem friend codes even after the summer game is over or are they only available to be redeemed during the summer game only

I panicked when I saw this final badge drop and saw all the new badges to solve, but was relieved since most of the badges automatically filled, whew!

Is anyone else having problems getting pages to load? I'm trying to do reviews and it keeps freezing and giving me drupal site offline... Maybe it's because of alot of traffic on here

@j mckinley, I am having the same problems as well. I think it's because lots of people are trying to get points before the game ends in about one hour.
With that said, this comment will give me my last points for this year (except for Friend Codes). Thanks again AADL Staff!!

I'm curious about whether we'll be able to still add friend codes, too (regardless of points).

And yes, don't forget the Points-O-Matic! And maybe the Lowdowb of the Day will tide us over somewhat as well?

I CANNOT seem to get the last clue regarding name of engineer for NASA Curiosity Rover for the Libraries Love Lego Badge. I thought I had googled and easily found the first and last name, but it didn't work. I have looked up every engineer I think who ever worked on the thing and tried to enter it. Nothing. I can't go back to re-read the clue. What am I missing? Hints? I am so close.

Thanks for keeping the Shop open for another couple weeks! I hope you add some more chocolate and coffee! They were delicious!

Just about 20 minutes left! I'd like to earn my comment badge but I'm really getting too tired to comment - just a few more!

Oh, boy, I'm going to need a BIG cup of coffee when I wake up at 6:00am tomorrow! I've just got to get a few more points - midnight will almost be a relief, ha, ha!

I wonder if any of these few people working away on the computers at the Shapiro Library near me are working on the AADL SG? I know there are some final gamers like me out there! Just a few minutes left 11:56pm - it sure was a fun time!

I race to the finish-
cause I eat my spinach-
I'm LEAN (in my head)
Should be in my bed!
Thanks AADL for the fun!

ahahaHAHAHAHAHA sooooo close! the site was offline for those precious seconds so I didn't get the code, which led to not getting the badge, which also means not getting the master badge for the series. such frustration.... oh well can't be helpled I was busier this summer than before.... *sobs* I wanted to get at least one master badge but nooooo I was off by a minute.... Bye everyone I'll see if next year will be better...yeah...

Game over, man. Game over.

Good game, Ann Arbor.

See you next year.
