Badge Drop #11: T-Minus 10 and Counting

by andrewjmac

Time for Badge Drop #11! Those of you who have been in the Summer Game...uh, game for a while know that there is something awesome and terrible about Badge Drop #11: it is the last of the drops with original badges. Just to clue those of you who don't know in (or to remind those of you who didn't spend the months of September to May biting your nails and peeking between the curtains waiting for your obsession to start up again), the final badge drop (that'll be #12 for those of you keeping track at home) consists of Master Badges, awarded to those select few who have managed to complete all badges in given series (or given subsets of those badges)! So that's great, right? You can start knocking off those series and feeling like you've accomplished something. But now for the terrible part: Badge Drop #11 also mean THERE ARE ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT OF SUMMER GAME 2015!!! So if you look at the Badges page and see a sea of ghosted out badge images, you've got a lot of work to do!

Oh, and before I forget: IT'S STILL SUMMER GAME SHOP MADNESS WEEK! Today we've got a couple of perfect additions for your AADL Ultrapremium Embroidered Logo Messenger: AMAZING LUNCH PODS, available in radish orange or chargrilled lime! That's right, when you are hitting the town to collect ALL THOSE CODES for the LEGO Quest, Arbor Explorer, and PowerArt! badges, you'll now have everything you need: Sip-top Bottle, Microdrivers, Pocket Stitchery, Mug and Beans, and now something to pack your lunch in!!! It seems like that bag is getting pretty full, so surely that must be all the shop items for this year, right? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! Stay tuned next week for 2 MORE BRAND-NEW ITEMS TO HIT THE SHOP!

What do you say, should we get to the badges? For this badge drop we've got a plethora of Amazing Animals, a foolish samurai warrior, the world's greatest detective, and some delicious word origins! We've also got the final badge honoring our friend Jan and the end of Arbor Explorer! Let's badge it!

With the end of Summer Game 2015 only 10 days away, now seems like a good time to take stock of how far we've come this summer:

5,285 PLAYERS playing!

59,747 BADGES earned!!

293,435 CODES redeemed!!!

101,145,081 POINTS awarded!!!!

That last number is 101 million. Like a million times 101. THAT IS AN ASTOUNDINGLY GINORMOUS NUMBER!!! Sorry to shout, but seriously 101 million? You guys are something else.

But not you've got a decision to make. You (this is, again, the collective you, not you personally) have topped 100 million points for the first time in Summer Game history! Does it seem like a good time to retire? Hang up your Summer Game hat (collective hat), which I'm picturing sort of a beret but instead of just being black it is a big badge, and call it quits? OR DO YOU ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES (collective sleeves), DIVE BACK IN, AND START WORKING TO BLOW 101 MILLION POINTS OUT OF THE WATER?!

I think we all know the answer. But better get to it. Your 10 days starts...NOW!

Oh, and in case I didn't mention it, THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Comments

The Badge series to honor Jan is a wonderful idea. I am not a gamer, and did not know him, but I am getting to know him through the badges.

Where has the time gone? The second to the last badge drop? I feel like the summer has passed me by. And, alas, I drove by the County Courthouse one day this week...at 5 pm. Ugh. (Can we get that code after business hours?)

County Courthouse Badge

Love the idea, but, for those of us who cannot make it there during the hours it's open...there is that one unfinished badge. Any way the code can be posted in a place accessible after hours?

to all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on two badges right now and I need help finding the third code word for both of them. I need helping the third code word for "On the Map" and "Charater Type" I have googled up what I think the anwsers could be to get me to the code words to no avail. I think my dyslexia is transposing a word or couple letters in each clue. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me out with some more clues to help me find the code words.
Thanks so much

HELP!!
I simply can't get the Red Herring badge for the life of me. I have tried everything I could possibly think of and it simply isn't happening. I NEED assistance as it is kind of diving me crazy!

@elsbetherin

Have you ever heard a comedy routine where guy #1 says, "Call me a cab!" and guy #2 says, "OK, you're a cab."? The red herring badge tells you exactly what goes in the search box, but not before giving you paragraphs of red herrings.

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am having extreme trouble finding three badges and I think my dyslexia is the reason why I am having trouble finding these code words because i am transpossing the clues. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me with some more clues as to where I can find the code words I need.

1) Red herring: I am still having a gerat deal of trouble finding the codeword and I have tried everybodys tips to no avil

2) On The Map: I need help finding the third codeword

3) Charater Traits: I need help finding the third code word for that one alos

Thanks for the help
Lmd3577

Since this is my first year I don't know a lot about the Summer Game.
I'm feeling pretty good about how I've done- I don't have a lot of time to go places and find clues, so most of my work has been badges (and Game Codes! I'm LEAN633, which has been posted before.)
How many badges, I wonder, does the average player complete?
What are the most popular badges?
What, besides the red blasted-herring, are the hardest?

Yes I finally found the Red herring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I still need help finding the code words for three badges

1) On the Map: Third Code word

2) Charater Type: Third code word

3) Tiny Titans: Second code word

Thanks for the help
Lmd3577

To the summer game staff,
I have a suggestion for next years summer game. If you give anymore clues like the Red herring one please label it extremly extremly difficult and let the max points be 1000 because I think they deserve that much. I along with several other gamers had an extremely extremely hard time finding the anwser and that is the reason I feel they should be given 1000 points tops. I have really enjoyed this years game it has not only been educitional but I did get a great workout walking around town finding all the lego displays this year which is always fun and please keep up all the scavgner hunts and park- muesum walks they are a great way to stay fit.
Once again thanks for all the fun and I can not wait to see what next year brings
Lmd3577

The Red Herring badge was only 100 points, not 1000, and it was labeled advanced. So if a player couldn't get it, it still isn't much of a loss.

Also, many people asked and received many, many hints about it, and the biggest hint was the very one given by the library. It could not have been unsolvably hard because 13 people solved it almost immediately, with no hints at all.

I very much encourage the library to continue to have two tiers of the game, one for players who want easier badges, which is most people, and some for more crazed or experienced players. I think at some points there has been an over emphasis on the harder badges, and maybe less experienced players feel compelled to try to answer them, but end up confused. There seems to me to be an awful lot of expectation that repeated hints will be given, for three or four out of five of the clues for a single badge, by the same game player, rather than perhaps accepting that this particular badge is not the appropriate one, or that it deserves more thought (=more time) not that the answer must be given right now.

Those who are good at puzzles should not be limited by the fact that some players cannot solve harder puzzles. I think it's good to have two paths. Likewise they should not all be hard.

I would also like to see more effort to weed out cheating and unsavory behaviors such as really short or irrelevant reviews. I am not even going to list some of the things I have seen. I just don't understand the point of it. Are people that desperate for library prizes? and has AADL considered selling material with the logo on it?

I do have to agree somewhat about the Red Herring badge because it was very different from the other badges. It was far more of a brain-teaser/riddle than any of the others.

I got it relatively quickly, and thought it was brilliant (and yes, it made me feel brilliant figuring it out), but it does seem like it should have been a special bonus or in a separate category of brain-teasers and wordplay. Many of the other badges do have a riddle or wordplay element, but the Red Herring was in a class by itself.

So yeah, I don't think it should have been worth many times more points, but the one-shot brain-teaser structure was unique, and that made it feel out of place despite the subject.

(My apologies if there have been other badges like this that I am not aware of; this is only my second time really playing the Summer Game hardcore, and even so I have to skip nearly all the out-and-about badges.)

that one should have got 1000 points because it was way to hard for quite a few of us and it should have been labled extremly extremly hard so a sugeestion for next year if they choose to do more clues like this one is that they do make these clues worth max 1000 points because they are extremely hard and there are those of us who have such reading diffuclities as dylsexia like me that it takes quite a bit longer than those of us who do not have reading issues at all. Also by labeling the red herring badges extremly extremly hard those of us who do have reading diffculties might just skip those badges all together but some might just be brave enough to try them out because some of us do like the challange some of don't so I think they should do this because it gives us the option if we want an extreme challange.

I would also like to see them monter the responses more my self beause it is hard to find responses to posts that are posted by those of us players who are looking for a response to uor posts but with the contributer badges it makes it quite easy to cheat.

The summer game is not perfect just yet and it will always be everchanging but if they are going to bring back bages with red herring like clues they do need to make a new labeling system for them to give those of us with reading issues the option to try them or not and they do need to be giving a 1000 points max if completed because to me 1000 points max is not asking much for badges like the Red herring it is extremly extremly hard to complete

Absolutely love all of the useful shop items hitting the store this last week! Thanks for giving such fun and practical rewards (for an activity that I'd almost certainly do even if there weren't such great prizes).

Eat Your Words was one of the easiest badges in this badge drop despite being labeled "expert". But it was very interesting! I loved those Etymologies badges and I'm going to miss them. Finishing Eat Your Words was bittersweet.

Not every player will get every badge. There are some of us who will get every or almost every badge, but if you look at the total number playing these players are a very small percentage. It's my 5th year playing, and my third year getting serious about points and badges. I was out of town for the poling place badge, but I don't get to complain about that. It's a game. Some things are great for kids, some things are really difficult, some things require certain days or hours. The summer game staff does an amazing job fitting a tremendous number of ages, interests, skill levels, personal needs, and types of badges into one three month game. Let's just remember that most of all this is ment to be fun.

Thank you for all the hard work put in to make our summer more enjoyable! I went to some really neat places I had never about knew about before the game. I learned a ton of new stuff along the way as well. Puzzles are super fun! I loved all parts of the game. THANK YOU AADL STAFF!!!

to all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on three badges and i need help finding the code words for them. I have had googled anwsers to all three badges and with my dyslexia I have eighter transposed the correct anwser or just transposed the whole paragraph the possible correct anwser could be in. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me out with some more clues.

1) Charater Type: third code word

2) On the map: third code word

3) Tint Titans: second code word

Thanks for the help

I am having trouble with the 3rd clue in the Sherlock badge. I have searched every name I could find and have gotten no where! Between this and the Red Herring badge I am loosing my badge confidence!

@elsbetherin

I had trouble with this one too. There's a wikipedia page about everyone who has played Sherlock, and one of the actors listed meets the requirements of the clue (it doesn't list all that this actor has done, but it states what he's done in a couple phrases). After discovering this correct name, the code was easy to find in the catalog.

Love the new badges. Especially the Jan series. I am trying to keep up

I don't believe the beginner badges are worth less points than advanced or expert badges, I believe all are worth 100 points. As one who had trouble with Red herring, I don't think it should have been worth 1,000 points. As with any badge, some people find some easier, some people find some more difficult. At least one person posted they got Red Herring immediately and on first try. I think it's points value is correct. I also don't think point value should be tied to level of difficulty. There is already an advantage to being able to solve the more difficult ones, more points by solving more puzzles. While Red Herring was difficult, I don't think it was "extremely extremely difficult" (last years Pokemon was terribly difficult and I am thankful we didn't get another series like that one).

There have been expert badges that I found very very simple and there have been beginner badges that I've found very very difficult. Every badge is going to be easy or difficult based on everyone's own experiences in life. Hence, why some people found Red Herring easier than others.

Also, just because you start a badge, doesn't mean you have to finish it. If you start something and it's to difficult, then just skip it. While I try to get every badge, it's just not possible and I have to decide and accept that there are just some badges that I cannot and will not get (I'll admit, I could not let Red Herring go, I knew I could and would get it eventually and it was driving me crazy that I wasn't getting it.)

I do think explorer badges should indicate level of accessibility, so people with varying ranges of physical ability can determine ahead of time whether it can be walked, biked, accessed by car, not at all, etc. as many of us are not knowledgeable about all of the areas around town. For example, I would not have been able to walk the trails at Gallup Park to access the required codes. However, I am familiar enough with Gallup that I knew I could bike it, so we took bikes. However, once we got there I realized I could have accessed all codes within easy walking distance from a parking lot. Conversely, I am not familiar with the Arb (a badge from a prior year). When we went to do that one, I realized about 10 minutes in that I would not be able to hike those trails and had to turn back. Had I known ahead of time the length of the trails I'd have to walk and that there are a lot of steep trails, I probably wouldn't have even attempted it. Labeling badges beginner, advanced, and expert is only an indication to me what AADL thinks may be easy or difficult. I rarely look at those ratings because I find them rather meaningless because easy vs difficult is all relative.

@AprilCDB

I agree with you mostly. If I remember correctly, there were a ton of questions about accessibility in the comments about the explorer badges during the first year they did those (2013, I think). After that, I thought they were better at including how accessible it was (walking difficulty, bikes, strollers, etc). As for badge difficulty level, I found that beginner was usually easier than advanced/expert this year. I could usually get the answer to the clue without looking further than the clue in beginner, but with the more difficult ones, I often needed to do outside research. But there's always the exception to the rule. The last etymologies badge (difficulty: expert) was a piece of cake for me while the beginner flintstones one had me ready to throw the computer across the room. So I would say that in general beginner is easier than advanced/expert, and the one that is the exception to the difficulty rule is all relative depending on each person's prior knowledge and experience.

I know alot of you will never understand why with such badges as the red herring badge should be given another label than advanced and why they should give a much higher point value to badges like this one but I know from my standpoint I was dygnoised with dyslexia much later than most individuals I was dygniosed when I got to college not when I was in the public school system at all. I feel that a badge like the red herring should be giving a much higher point value sytem and label is because for
1) I know for myself and possibly outher individuals out there who do partipate in the summer reading game the option weather to challange outselves with the badge or not.

2) by the summer reading staff giving this badge a much higher point value and a different label if we do decide to challange ourselves the higher point value is kinda of a way that if we get the badge we can kinda of say to ourselves we compleated a challange that no one elseexpected us to and we kinda felt devalued in a way because we had a reading differnce most people don't have. By having a higher point level and higher challange level we are challenging ourselves to strive harder to read more and challange ourselves and aim higher to try more difficult things we may have never tried before. I know for myself I would like to see higher point values on red herring badges because it does help me strive harder and gives me a reason to read harder material I may not have tried before because I have limited myself due to my dyslexia. I know not everyone might not understand but for me I just feel that the red herring badge badge should have been giving a different point value and a different diffcuilty level because it was much harder than an advanced level badge and it made me feel that if it did have a harder point value and diffcuilty level I would not have chosen that badge. In the end though I am very glad I did get it because I feel that now I can go on futher in my reading material I choose and not limit myself like I have in the past.

If any particular badge were worth 1000 points, that would make it somehow important, points-wise. By making it only 100 points, it remains relatively unimportant if you can't get it.

I have no idea where people got the idea that they must get every badge or every code in every badge. If it's hard, let it go. Do something else. If one hint doesn't get it, or if hints are required for every code, then I think it's better to move on to something else. Most of the badges aren't worth that many points. Read a book or listen to some music -- those also can earn points, and they are less stressful.

like i have said I know not everyone will understand individuals that have reading differenecs because it is quite hard to discribe but with me it is about how not being dygnoinsed with dyslexia untill I was in college. Most individuals are dygniosed before they go into the public schools but me it was 18 years later and it is kinda of a validation that we can acutally do anything someone else that does not have dyslexia or any other reading issue. I had alot of teachers who never gave me the tools to read propely so I had to learn on my own to read and I kinda knew from a young age I had some sorta reading issue because I could relate to such people as Tom Cruise and Whoppie Goldberg who are also not scared to educate people about such reading issues as dyslexia. I know not everyone will foully understasand but through education and reading about people who have such issues it makes it a world of difference and maybe in the future you might meet some one who says they are having trouble with reading and you can ask them a few simple questions like how do you read the word mom? if they say omm that could be a sign of dyslexia. Also if you see alot of spelling errors in letters or e-mails that could be a sign of dyslexia because some dysiexlcs mispell word esp when nervous. Another way you can tell a dyslexic they mention they transpose words or sentices. One last way you can tell someone is dyslexic it that alot of us also have issues with numbers. I know no one will fully understand but with education reading posts like this one it does help shead light on a very common issue that is being ignored and with upping the point values on badges like the Red herring and diffcuilty level also it truely does give us the option to eighter challange ourselves which I do or just stray away period. I know we don't have to get all the badges but it does give thaose of us who are dyslexics like me a very validating way to say we could do something everyone else thought we could never do or in my case just did not give me the tools to read which in turn I had to learn myself and I have become stronger for it.

What I don't understand is why do you need 1,000 points to validate yourself? Why isn't the knowledge that you were capable of solving something that you found difficult enough? Why does something need to be labeled challenging in order for you to decide to skip it or not? At any point you could have decided the trail to long and hills to steep for you to continue and abandon the badge, just as I did with The Arb.

I think having a very hard badge with a small number of points means that the summer game is MORE accessible for people who find them challenging because they are not essential to the game. If they are worth tons of points, then the game is weighted towards those things.

Similarly, many library activities are only worth 250 points or something. Some people have time or leave nearby to libraries and can pop in for all these activities. Other people don't. But if an activity was worth 5,000 points, then it would seem mandatory. This way, people can interact with the library in different ways. No one is expected to do everything. In fact, there is no "everything."

I have had various reasons why I couldn't complete the park badges, last year and the year before. It was unfortunate but true. And it may happen again this year!

This isn't discrimination against people with dyslexia, and no one is doubting that you have it. But there are many people here with a host of other life issues that affect them in different ways -- from a new baby to a time-consuming job to vision problems to mobility issues to difficulty with English to lack of knowledge about pop culture. Everyone has different skills and plays the game in different ways.

If an activity or badge is only worth a few points, then really, it doesn't matter and you can get the same number of points by something much easier or interesting FOR YOU, like reading something, rating items, or watching a movie, or whatever else you enjoy.

Once the Summer Game stops being fun, then it's time to stop playing. In my opinion, of course.

@willow,
Nice response about point values. I also wondered about the badges seeming to have low values this year (really? only 10 points for that clue?!) but still we all topped 100 million points, and the main thing is to have fun, not be super competitive.

@willow
Well said and I completely agree. There are some badges I know I won't complete for a variety of reasons. I do what's fun, I'm not in it to win, and I really enjoy learning new things, being introduced to catalogue items, and interacting in new and different ways with both the library and greater Ann Arbor.

A ton of thanks to the people who do all the hard work to make this game possable. I celebrate you and am grateful for you!!

I'm having trouble with the Mega Marchers badge. For the first clue, it says to add the years of the first marching band and the first American football game together. But do they mean to enter them as a sequence or do they want you to actually add them together? I think I know the correct year for the first American football game, but I'm not sure if I have the right year for the first marching band. Any help would be very much appreciated :)

For Marching Madness: 1) add them mathematically; 2) the band was more than 25 but less than 30 years before the game, and the year they want was the year it was founded, not the first known performance.

Thanks for the series of badges in memory of Jan Wolter. They are awesome, and this last one is especially amazing!!! Jan was an avid puzzle-maker, and he really enjoyed the library's Summer Game in past years, so this is a really lovely way to remember him.

-Valerie Mates (Jan's life-partner)

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on four badges right now and I really do need help finding the code words for them. I have googled what I think are the anwsers for all four to no avail and I am eighter transposing one word or one paragrah the anwser for the code word is in but I am haveing extremely hard time finding the anwsers to get the code words so I am hoping some of you gamer's out there could help me with a few clues to help me find the codewords.

1) on the map: third code word

2) charater type: third code word

3) tiny titans: second code word

4) one of the clues from the lego display that is found downstairs in the main libabry
I think I have found the anwser for the Curisoty Rover codeword but when I go to put in the anwser I get codeword not regonized.
I think the anwsere starts with these intinals A S but when I go to put in the anwser it just says code not regonized.

I am hoping some of you out there can hepl me out with some more clues to get the code words.
Thanks for the help
Lmd3577

The second code for Tiny Titans threw me off because when I searched for the wrong term, the first thing that came up was the item with the third code. The right thing to search for is c---- r--- .
For the rover the name you want didn't appear in the display case - the first name starts with S.

I want to thank Glenna WATCH434 for helping me with Red Herring all the way from Ireland. She might not be in town currently but she is always working on the summer game!

SOOOOO Much fun this year as well as previous years! Such helpful other summer gamers as well! We always run into a few while out hunting for codes! :)

It would be interesting to have a Summer Game Q&A meeting after it's all over. There are so many questions we players have about how things are done, suggestions for future games, etc. I think a lot of players would like this- although the staff may want to be done with it all!

Sara, I too was hoping for a meeting with the library to discuss the game, and another more social meeting with other players. I was the only one wearing a name tag last year so I finally took it off. I talked to one other player, but everyone else was running around frantically looking for codes.

I too did not care for last years end game event. I was in no mood to solve more puzzles and search for more clues. By the last day of the game, I'm ready for it to be over.

I found some people were more competitive than others and were unwilling to work as a team and/or be helpful. Luckily, I was able to "team" up with some other players and as a team we figured out all the codes.

I would have preferred less game play and a more social event. I was expecting there to be name badges that we could all complete so we could get to know each other a little. It would be nice to put a face with a player names.

@ willow

I'll talk to you this year! I love running into other summer gamers. No one in my life really understands my love for the summer game, so it's great to connect with people who do!

@sarai: I'm the only one I know personally that is playing this game!
I hope to attend the library event on Monday- I can't solve two of the Lego clues, even though I've gone over those cases several times!
I need one last crack at them.

To all the summer gamers out there,
I am working on the Holmes strech badge and I need help with finding the third codeword.
I have looked at a wiki list of actors that have played him and to no avial. I am thinking it could one of two actors who played him in this last decade but I think I am terribly wrong. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could give me some more clues on to find the third code word.

Thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

LMD- the clue reads in part, "In 2009, a real rocknrolla director saw a chance to make a Sherlock film ...The performer who played Sherlock in this adaptation" so the reference is clear on the time frame.

Lego Mini-figures

Just curious- how many colors were there? Were all the shirts white with orange? There is a green figure in the photo above, also a green tile with aadl. Are more legos coming?

Has the banner at the West Branch been taken down? I was there earlier today and didn't see it anywhere near the entrance. I did see someone doing work on the awnings (? fascia? high up siding stuff?) in that section of Westgate, but no banner.

@camelsamba Apparently the banner was removed yesterday for some roof/paint repair work - it is supposed to be put back up today sometime. If you submit a contact us we can send you the gamecode. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for playing!
- erin

To all the gamer's out there,
I am working on the "Refresh you r MMOry" badge and I need help finding the third code word. I think I know the anwser but I think I am wrong because when i went to search it I got hundreds of possible anwsers to look through to get to the codeword. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me out with some more clues to help me foin the correct code word.
Thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

@Lmd3577. The word you need to search is going to pull up over 1000 items. You start with the first one and go until you find the code. This year the codes are in the top ten items so you wont be searching through them all.

to all the summer gamers out there,
I am working on the "Refresh your MMOry" badge and I need help finding the very last code word to complete the badge. I have googled up what I thought was the anwser to no avil so I am hoping some of you gamers out there could give me some more clues to help me out.
Thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

@Lmd3577 the 4th code word clue you used to search with is part of the name of the game. If you google that word plus MMORPG you should be able to find the name of the game. Search for the name of the game in the catalog - the item was further down for me than 10, but not much further... I hope that helps.

Attention gamers!
I need help with the second code in the Tiny Titans Badge, I have no clue where to start.
I also need help with the third code in the Undo the Future that is Aku Badge.
I know someone out there can help me, I have spent an entire afternoon trying to figure them out!
Thanks in advance!

@Stephanie M Smith - try googling Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory... who created them and what did he work on after Samurai Jack? search for the creators name in the catalog and find the code in the next thing he worked on.

@Stephanie M Smith - for the Tiny Titans, I found the second one very hard too! Did you figure out what the alpheid is that discussed? Where does it live? It is a 2 word location 'area' - then search for that in the catalog.

Attention gamers!
I need help with the second code in the Tiny Titans Badge, I have figured out the correct organism (**phid*e), however the clue regarding habitats and citys makes no sense.
Please help!

@Stephanie M Smith If you search one word that describes their habitat (mentioned twice in Wikipedia) in the catalogue, the city reference will help you pick the right item.

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the Mythed By A Mile badge and I need helping the very first code word.
I have googled up what I think are possible anwsers but to no avil so I am hoping some of you out there could help me out with some more clues on where to find the first code word.
Thanks so much for the help
Lmd3577

@Lmd3577,
Google will help you with these Mythed By a Mile clues. Try searching for phrases from the clue (for ex, not just Saguenay but Kingdom of Saguenay.)
You can also try a Google search for those coordinates. You should find a Wikipedia article which will lead you to the answer.

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the "Mythed By A Mile" badge and I need help finding the fourth code word. I have done a google search to try to find the anwser to no avil, I am hoping some of you gameres out there could give me some more clues on where to find the fourth code word.

Just 4 more badges to complete... well, more than that, but there are some I know I just won't get. I refuse to tag, rate and review catalog items just for the sake of earning points and a badge. Seriously, 1,000 items? Who has time for that!? Even 500 is a lot!

Help with Holmes

Could one of you 78 people who have this badge give me a hint for the last clue? I feel like I should know it, but...

@sara The knitting sleuth is a creation of a very famous English female crime novelist. You need to search the catalogue for a video about this character that costars an actor currently portraying Holmes.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I searched the correct person- author's first name begins with an a- but didn't find a code after searching through all of her videos. Maybe I should look again

Wow! The Summer Game is almost over! I've been so busy lately that I've missed two badge drops, so I will have to try and finish all the badges that I can!

With that said, I need help finding
1) The first code of the "Character Type" badge
2) The second code of the "Tiny Titans" badge

@sharmas

1. This book has been adapted for film and television many times, and reaches peak popularity every December around a certain holiday.A version of the protagonist even comes in "McDuck" form.
2. I left a hint five comments before yours.

Thanks @keebs23! I found the first code of the "Character Type" badge. I had the correct person, but for some reason, I couldn't find the code. I am still having trouble with the second code of the "Tiny Titans" badge. I think the alpheid is also known as a A****** S****p. Is this the correct one that I'm looking for?

@sharmas. The alpheid is a 'sound' S-.
You are looking for the place he lives.
It's more what he lives in than the name of a city... it is most often described not as good, but as great.

To all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the "Mythed By A Mile" badge and I need helping the very last code word to achive the badge. I ahave goolgled up what I think is the right anwser but when I plug it into the catalouge I get thousands of possible anwsers which leads me to believe I have the wrong anwser to find the code wword. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me with some more clues as to where I can find the correct anwser I need to find the final code word.
Thanks so much for the help

@Judeyblu @keebs23 I am slightly confused as to what you guys are saying and what code you are helping me on. Could you please make it a little clearer? Thanks so much!!

Thanks for clearing the confusion @JudeyBlu and @keebs23! I have the correct alpheid for the "Tiny Titans" badge but I cannot find the code for it. I think the place where they live is in Tr*****l S*****w W****s. Also, I know what the idiom "tilting at windmills" means, but I don't know what to do with the meaning.

Tiny Titan: Look at the Wikipedia page for alpheidae. Three habitats are mentioned. One word is used twice. Search the singular of that word in the catalogue.
Character Type: What is the origin of the idiom? Search for that source material in the catalogue.

PS - Thanks for helping me get the commenter badge while I try to help you!

I am having trouble finding the fourth code for the "Tiny Titans" badge. I think the genus is O*************s. Any hints? Thanks!

@Judeyblu, Thanks so much! I finally found the fourth code and finished the badge!
Now, I am having lots of trouble with the fourth code of the "Character Type" badge as I don't know what to search for. Any suggestions? Thanks!

@Judeyblu, No problem! Thanks for your effort!
I am also having trouble with the first code of the "Eat Your Words" badge. I'm pretty sure the name of the guy who invented the sandwich starts with an "R," but I cannot find a code for it.

@sharmas. For the character type figure out the word they are describing..gigantic, enormous, colossal, really really big...and then go from there. It is a series of novels that have that character in it.

For eat your words I suggest reading the wikipedia page that talks about the creation of the sandwich, that's where I found the answer needed.

Man I hope these points carry over, I always seem to be a little late to get the new items in the game shop...

Bled4days - yes, the points carry over.

I was just looking at last year's badges -- besides the cryptography badges, those Lydia badges were hard too! Nothing this year was anything like that!

@willow
Last year there were some series that I didn't even attempt to finish, they were just too hard! A few of the badge series this year were tough, but nothing like last year!

Just finished the Name That Library badge and it was a wonderful walk down memory lane. I've lived in Ann Arbor for the last 45 years, and remember when the Loving branch was my main branch, and when bookmobiles used to roam the streets of Ann Arbor. Just goes to show, AADL has been a premier library system for many, many years!

Arbor Explorer also takes a long time, at least for the parks with a lot of codes. We did the legos and the power arts in two sessions: main street area and state street area.

@willow
It probably helps that I have an 11year old who loves finding codes with me, and a 16 year old who participated sullenly, but did manage to put down her phone while we were looking, so must have been at least mildly interested!

I have an 11 year old who loves finding codes, too! :) Actually I have other kids who like to come along, too, making moving fast a fairly rare experience.

If you have time, try to do the Lydia badges from last year. And I had such a sense of accomplishment to decode the cryptogram ones. Ha.

Well, I had an 11 year old girl and a little baby in a sling. The person I talked to was just finishing up and had, like me, started at the wrong entrance. I've seen her, or you, at summer game events in the past. Regardless, will you be at the gala tomorrow? Perhaps we can meet then.

Doing the Lion Love badge, I learned that I've been spelling "dachshund" wrong all my life! I wasn't including the second h - and I've even studied German, so I should have realized it needed to be there! ("hund" being German equivalent of English "dog") The summer game: not just fun, also educational.

The player and game statistics are amazing! Quite a lot of enthusiastic and devoted players this summer - me included!
