BADGE DROP #5 Rings In A Brand New Badge MILLENNIUM!!!

by nicole

We'll admit it, you guys. Badge drop days can get a little bonkers around here, and last week we were so UNBEARABLY excited to roll out those brand new badges for ya that we BLEW RIGHT PAST OUR 1,000TH BADGE WITHOUT EVEN BLINKING!

I know that's a lot of caps lock guys, but 1,000 BADGES??? That's absolutely PREPOSTEROUS! If you were to try to count that high on your fingers and toes, you'd need....ten....twenty....squared...carry the one....A LOT of fingers and toes! That's a HALF TON of badges we've dropped on you over the years, if you can believe it!

And in light of this brand new badge millennium, we've stopped to do some real soul-searching. What does it all mean? What do we do now that we've reached 1,000? What could POSSIBLY beat the absolute AWESOMENESS of making 1,000 badges??

UH. MAKING 1,000 MORE BADGES, OF COURSE!!! Because we're MANIACS and we CAN'T BE STOPPED!

If you didn't know, that up there is what our VICTORY DANCE looks like over in Badge Drop headquarters!

If you're trying to count on your fingers and toes, don't bother--that's 22 BADGES forging bravely ahead into this new badge era--including the HIGHLY ANTICIPATED BRANCH MASTER BADGES! If you haven't made it out to the branches yet, this is CLEARLY a sign from the COSMOS that you should GET RIGHT ON IT! And in the spirit of reaching for the STARS and all that jazz, we're also dropping the first of the CONTRIBUTOR'S TROPHY BADGES for those of you who have been rating like CRAZY!

Don't forget that the SUMMER GAME SHOP has officially opened, and now ALL THOSE POINTS can easily be traded in for ALL THOSE PRIZES!!

1,000 badges would mean NOTHING without all of your EPIC ENTHUSIASM, Summer Gamers, so thanks for sticking with us to 1,000 and beyond and THANKS FOR PLAYING!

The last code of The Deer and a Dog badge, the third code on the Green Gabbler badge and the last code of the Winnie Wanderings badge are showing.

I'm so behind. I've barely done any of last weeks badges. I've been to busy at work, then to exhausted from work to think about searching the catalog. But, I've got a 5 day weekend ahead of me, yippee. Hopefully I can get caught up in those days.

The Winnie the poo badge went through some lovely books! Thanks for the jaunt down memory lane.

The branch master badges aren't showing up on the badge page, just the badge drop post.

I am working on the "A Deer and A Dog" badge and am having some difficulties finding the last code (even though the difficulty is beginner). I think I know what province it is but I am not getting any 2015 codes. Any help? Thanks!

Edit- I found the code in a book that I had already checked. I guess I skimmed over the code thinking that I had already gotten it.

IN green gables first code I think the island is P***** E***** Island I searched it the code didn't come

Question about Contributor Trophy Badge

Are these things we've starred during the summer game, or do they accumulate all year?

@sara

The Contributor's Trophy badges will count the number of items you have starred during the Summer Game 2015. So, anything you have starred after June 12 and until August 31 will count. Hope this helps!

I am having some difficulties with the first code of the "Farthest South" badge. I know that only 3 people have gotten the badge so far, but those of you who have found that badge, would you please help me out? Thanks!

I think I know the name of the ship and the farthest south latitude. The name of the ship I found starts with a "B" and ends with an "A." Do I have the correct ship?

Anybody working on Lotus Laid Low? The last one is a stumper. Or rather, the word/number it suggests we should be searching for yields bazillions of hits. Clearly I'm overlooking something...

@logista, @camelsamba

For the last Lotus clue, you're not overlooking something. Search the number (I wrote it out, but I don't know if that makes a difference) and look in the first few results. It's there.

@sharmas

The correct number is a prime number. The code is in a DVD from the 60's about a (fictional) attempted coup in the spring. The number is in the title of the DVD.

Thanks @SBNB - big help! (Had been wondering if the "lucky number" was lucky in US/Western culture, or the lucky number in Chinese culture. Wasn't sure how many hard hats in the picture I saw. Your clues answer which number, and helped me narrow down results. )

I'm also having difficulties with the third code of the "Lotus Laid Low" badge. Any suggestions? Thanks!

@sharmas

I think you have the wrong ship.

For the third Lotus code, you're looking for a kind of food. In the second to last sentence of the clue, it says the thing that this food is made of. The last sentence gives you part of the title of the book that has the code.

I'm having trouble with a clue for ONE FOR THE MAGES. I know in what city the 2002 tournament was held but I don't see a code in any of the records when I search that city's name...

I got all 10 codes for Pittsfield, but it says I am missing the last one. Something about a pipe?

@Motomori

If you write a "Contact Us" to the library staff with the codes that you have found, they will email you the code that you are missing.

@motomori, you might already have all the codes by now but just wanted to say: I found 8 on my first visit, then easily found #9 with the hint on my next trip. The hint for the one I was missing told me to look up, but suggested it would be on the ceiling. I could not find it - then I asked one of the staff members and he told me it was on a *ventilation duct* (not the celing) and told me the general section to look at. So if you didn't get it via email as someone else suggested, ask a staff member next time you are in the branch. They'll be glad to help!

(Remember, there are 10 for the badge, plus the critter code, plus the sign outside.)

Stuck on the last code from "one for the mages". Any hints appreciated!

Edit- just got it! That took some prety specific google search terms!

Clarification- if we watch / attend more then one civic meeting, will the code be different and can we earn additional points?

I am still having trouble finding the first code of the "Farthest South" badge. The ship that I found is four letters long, but is in another language. I searched it up but did not get any code. Any hints? Thanks!

@sharmas

You still have the wrong ship. It starts with an R, is an English word, and was captained by a man with initials J.C. If you use Wikipedia's page with the same name as this badge, you will find the answer for this and subsequent clues.

I'm stuck on the last clue for the Avatar badge, no clue what they're trying to point me too. A little help please.

Edit: I always seem to find these after I ask for help. NOW I get the Beauty and Beast reference. Was referring to another characters name.

totally thought I nailed it on all of the branches, but with no conceivable way to really record codes for them before this last badge drop, I was obviously delusional. I still have a bunch , but those hints? super helpful.

Hi Library,

I was wondering who made/designed the Lego instillation around town. The birds at the Grad Lib are really good! (I haven't seen most of the rest.) Maybe you could include that info somewhere in the future badges.

Re: Power Art

How are the boxes wrapped? Maybe you could post a link to the manufacturer. It's very interesting. And, what will be done if they are graffiti-ed over? Do they re-wrap them?

South badge:

I am so far from understanding how this is meant to be searched. I feel like I've gathered the necessary info, but my search does not yield any code. I've read the clues in the comments and still nothing.

@Fisherwoman

You're talking about the Farthest South badge, right? In the catalog, you search the name of the ship and the degrees latitude it reached (a two-digit number). For example, a certain Ford driving through Ann Arbor (if that were the clue) would be searched as Fusion 42 (Fusion=the vehicle, 42=the degrees latitude). The first code is in a rock CD. If you read all the other comments, I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Just watched last nights council meeting, announcing and holding the sign up is much better. Thank you!

BTW: are the AADL meetings available with on demand?

I'm stuck on the last clue for the Avatar badge, no clue what they're trying to point me too. A little help please.

Haha, I posted exactly the same thing, then promptly figured it out. The Beauty and the Beast reference is referring to not the movie or the beast.. But to another popular character from Beauty and the Beast, who shares the same name as to what you're looking for. I don't remember how I finally figured out the clue, but once I found it, the clue finally made sense. Look for a children's book using her name and hybrid and it's in top 10

We were at Downtown Library today and my husband discovered the SG secret. Guess you weren't kidding when you said additional codes could be added throughout the summer to the branches... Now I know what was meant by that. I have questions:
1) will there be an eventual badge(s) to help locate these secret codes or are these considered "bonus" codes, similar to event codes
2) my husband said they change weekly, do they really change (as in, this weeks codes aren't available next week) or are they accumulating each week? He got four DT today I think, so I have a feeling his use of the word "change" may not have been correct.

@ AprilCDB - We aren't adding/changing gamecodes Downtown weekly or at all. Since June 12 the Downtown Branch gamecodes (10) have been available, as has Josie's Goat Badge gamecode on the 4th Floor. In the Week # 3 badge drop we released the first LEGO QUEST badge called "Downtown LEGO Kids" - this is associated with 3 gamecodes that can be figured out using clues found inside in the Youth Display Case . There is also a gamecode at the 'art table' in the DT Youth Department - this gamecode replaced a gamecode (worth the same # of points) that we offered for a short while when people made a LEGO mini-fig of themselves and turned it in at the youth desk - we stopped offering this gamecode after we filled an entire wall with LEGO mini-fig pictures. Either way everyone earns the same points. There are no other codes being added/changed, and we won't have a badge that points to the art table - this is just a bonus code. So it sounds like the "4 codes" he found today were the Art Table gamecode and the 3 in the Youth display case that are attached to a badge already. Thanks for playing!

@erin, my husband said there are "secret" codes at all the branches and they "change" weekly. He didn't tell me this until after we left the branch, so I didn't have a chance to talk to any librarians and ask more questions. The ones he got were either printed very small on something posted in the branch or had to ask someone for a code. they had nothing to do with the 10 posted branch codes and were not as visible as the branch codes. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't have known they were there, I was attending an event while he and my son hung out, and that's how he happened across them.

@ AprilCDB - There is one more code I forgot about Downtown - you can visit the 2nd floor, visit the desk and ask for a LEGO piece to place on the wall and then you get a gamecode. Downtown is the only location that will have these bonus gamecodes because there is more space and activity happening there naturally. However, none of these gamecodes is a secret, nor do they change every week. That being said there are gamecodes in all sorts of surprising places - sometimes if you visit the AADL tent at a street fair (like the Rolling Sculpture Car Show last weekend) there might be a code, and some members of our staff who spend MOST of their time out in the community have personal gamecodes. Part of the fun of the game is serendipity and surprise! Thanks for playing!

@willow

there are 10 codes per branch that will remain up the entire summer and are required to earn the Branch Explorer badge for that location. other codes may appear in connection with exhibits or activities as the summer goes on and the timing of those has to coincide with those exhibits or activities. but no one will miss out on getting the branch explorer badges this year because they went to a branch too early in the game!

-andrew

Can someone who got the code from the July 13th City Council Meeting tell me if I missed it? I'm at 1 hour 40 minutes and I didn't see it yet. Did I miss it?

@Sbnb, the game code was announced AND a sign with the code was held up. I don't know at what timing in the meeting it was done, but one female member kind of did it in the middle of them discussing the deer. She said something like "I'm going to do this now if that's ok... Well, I'm going to do it even if it's not ok" and gave the code.

@AprilCDB

Thanks! I heard a ton about the deer issue, so unless the whole meeting was about that, I must have missed it. I guess it's time to learn some more about the deer problem in Ann Arbor!

It was right after the woman talking about chemically sterilizing the deer population. Council woman Grant held up the sign. She had just asked a question about what types of communities choose different types of sterilization methods.

Question about the 2014 badges- I have all but one park explorer badge, and that one badge has been eating at me all winter. If I go collect the codes now, will I earn both that one badge and then also the master park explorer badge? I don't care about the points, but I really really want the badges!!

In reply to by sarai koster-m…

@sarai

Yes, of course! Master badges are awarded based on the criteria listed, in this case all of the badges in that series. The only badges you can't earn after in a subsequent year are those for contributions (tags, reviews, star ratings, etc) and those that require you to be in a place at a specific time or time period (previous year's branch explorer badges or events badges). Park Explore away!

Still quite confused about Avatar: The Last AirBadge, the hint makes no sense. It points to beauty and the beast, and also notes that the character is "equid." I received a hint from another player suggesting that I should be looking for a female, popular character from beauty and the beast. However, none of the characters have 'equid' relations. I had two false leads, one of which being the fact that the previous clue involves tea, which made me think of a certain talking teapot, although she isn't a beast, I thought I had it. I was let down again by Gast** who is both a beauty and a beast, although not female nor an equid. I am beyond lost, please help!

Why can't I find the last code for Hotel Horror? The answer seems simple enough, but when I search I can't find the code. What am I missing?

Edit: once again, post for help and I figure it out. Got it.

I cannot locate the POWER ART on the corner of E Liberty and Thompson streets. There doesn't appear to be a power box. I have found all the others so I know what they look like. What am I missing??? Please give me a hint. Is the location listed incorrectly?

@Katharina Geschner

For the 2nd code of the Avatar badge, google the three word phrase that describes what you're looking for. You'll see a few dates pop up. It's the one in the later part of the next century. Put it in as your code in MMDDYYYY format.

I'm assuming there will be a branch master badge again this year because, if so, I am Branch Master!!!!
