hey @eli and other staff working on SG things this evening:

This is badge drop #4, but the header says #3, currently.
The badge after Mochimochi Land appears to not be working right: the image shows a broken link and clicking on it opens a badge detail that says: "Sorry, no badge found with that ID."

Just in case you hadn't noticed those things as yet. :)

About the public speaker opportunity...@aviatrix36 and I had been planning to go to the 2nd comics creation series event that evening, but now we are torn. Can I talk her into having me drop her off at Malett's and coming back for her? Will she decide the board meeting is what she wants to do? I guess we will find out. :)

Hey guys, thanks for the heads-up!

Those initial typos/funny code issues should be fixed now. Sometimes strange punctuation sneaks in and messes with those hints/codes.

Cherylo, thanks for the clue on the case-of-the-missing-badge - now resolved!

Thanks all! You're already off and earning these babies! Keep up the great work! :D

I don't know if anyone already mentioned/fixed this, but the arigurumi first code isn't working for me. Also, help with the first Hogwarts code...? :/

something's up with the "perseus's path" badge. i found the last game code but it doesn't actually give me the badge.

I am also running into the same problem with the perseus' path badge. I've gotten all of the codes, but I'm not getting the badge.

@illy and @shanaynay, I believe I've found the culprit there and fixed the problem. The next time you redeem a code, you should get a message that now you've gotten the Perseus badge. If you don't, let me know! Thanks!

There's a problem with the text after the second code for the Westerns badge. It talks about "the actor who played the sheriff" in the previous movie, but the character was a Marshall, not a sheriff.

Hey staff people, I just noticed that "Caroll's Cat" isn't showing on the badges page. I almost missed it. It is appearing on the 2013 badges list, just not on the main badge page. I assume it is meant to go in the Cat-alog section.

When I try to enter the second code for the Perseus's Path badge, I get an error code.

To all the summer gamers out there I am curentally working on the Amigrumi Glee badge and I am having a very hard time finding the last code word I have looked everywhere in the catalogue and I think I have the correct answer but I do believe I am still so far away so I am hoping someone could give me one last clue to help me our.
Thanks so much

I texted S562705 to 4AADL to connect my phone, but when I tried to text in a code, it didn't show up on my badge page. (I'm using an old flip phone). How do you know if AADL has connected your phone? Can you only use smart phones? I have never texted before. (Stop laughing.)

@Lmd3577 I was having trouble too with the last code, but I finally found it. Try searching "_______ for baby" and if you put the right craft, there should only be one result and that's the one with the code.

COOL!

I loved the Furstenberg Park badge - I hope there are going to be more of those! If you do go, be sure you're parked in the lot right by the bridge to Gallup Park - we parked at the other entrance, where there was a sign just like the one we were supposed to look for, and so we got to hike the whole trail twice.

So, I find the first item in the first clue in the Hogwarts badge and there are over 400 results !!

@messa - I'm having a hard time with the first new hogwarts (catalog diver) clue too!! I type in the mascot of the 'g' house as keyword and add non-fiction, then book and adult and there are so many returned. None of the titles make sense like the clue says. UGH - I must be missing something as so many people have already earned it.... sigh...

@ssmyth You have the name of the mascot and know it's an adult, non-fiction book. As I'm sure you know, this mascot is found in nature. Maybe if you add that word to your search, you'll find it. It's somewhere in the title. (Hope I'm not giving away too much) Good luck. :)

@messa - (banging head on table) DUH - still couldn't find it - then realized... hey ... maybe I don't exactly know the mascot of Harry's house... DUHHHHH! Thanks so much for all the help! Would love to have the chance to help you or someone else

I know the griffindor mascot, but there are soooo many results. I already narrowed it a little by choosing adult and books. any other way to narrow down the house badge results?

I just started about an hour ago and am nearly done. I can't get those that require actual travel away from the computer, but those in the catalog I'm almost finished with. Now someone please help me?

I'm having trouble with narrowing down the results for the Griffindor Team Mascot. There are a lot of results, even in Adult, Book format. I've also tried the animal with combinations like **** friendship and **** friend. The results I get are fewer, but have no Game Code
I also need help with the last code in the Western badge. I can't find the movie.

last code in the Western badge....
Hint: The Road Warrior is based loosely on the plot of the film... also the name of one of the stars of the film is in the clue...

@bookbird -- please double check you have the right mascot for Griffindor (I was wrong and had to google it) then carefully follow @Messa's kind advice to me:

@ssmyth You have the name of the mascot and know it's an adult, non-fiction book. As I'm sure you know, this mascot is found in nature. Maybe if you add that word to your search, you'll find it. It's somewhere in the title. (Hope I'm not giving away too much) Good luck. :)

@yaldah, you'll need to figure out the source of the voice in question, then look for other roles the individual took on. The adjective describing the role is helpful in narrowing it down. I knew it off the top of my head, as it happened, but if I had not, I would have considered using IMDB to help me figure out the right title. Are you familiar with the Internet Movie DataBase?

To all you summer gamers out there I am working on several badges right now and I need help with finding some code words. I have looked in the catalogue, googled, wikied, and imdb to no success so I am hoping someone out there could give me some clues on where to find my codewords.

1.) I need to find the 3rd codeword for the Pappy badge
2.) I need to find the 1st codeword for "the line" badge
3.) I need to find the final codeword for the mrs.Norris badge
4.) I need to find the 2nd codeword for Carroll's Cat badge
5.) I need to find the fourth codeword for the Gromit badge
6.) I need to find the 4th codeword for the Perseus path badge
7.) I need to find the 2nd codeword for the worst villain of the West badge
8.) and finally I need to find the 2nd codeword for the Hogwarts badge

I am hoping someone out there can help me with this list. Thanks so much for the help.
lmd3577

@Lmd3577:

4.) If you've read the book, then it's the backwards poem.
6.) Try googling "Perseus city." I was having trouble with that code too, and that's how I found it.

Sorry; I can't help with the other codes you're having trouble with.

@Lmd3577
3.) I need to find the final codeword for the mrs.Norris badge
- hint - google the cats name (without Mrs) and the year in the hint along with 'book' -- by the way, this is by one of my all time FAVORITE authors!!

5) 4th code for Gromit
Gromit also enjoys cooking, especially *baking*. Find a *step-by-step cookbook* that Gromit might enjoy.

8) 2nd code for Hogwarts
There is some controversy over the mascot of Ravenclaw - so you'd better check to make sure. Then search the catlog for that word - then filter on video - it should be near the top

Hope that helps

@Zhengyang - last Carroll's Cat code - use IMDB do see who did the voice of the cat in AIWL (Disney) - then either use IMDB, google, etc to find that voice actor and another disney character he played that has a venomous voice (It is a disney character that has venom.....) Then search the movie title in DVD for the code.

Hope that helps.

To all the summer gamers out there I am working on the Hogwarts badge and I am having trouble finding the final code word and I have looked it several ways in the catalogue and I am getting nowhere. I am hoping someone could help me with a clue on where I can find the final code word. I know the mascot but when I type the anwser in the catalogue I get way to many anwsers so I need help with one more clue.
Thanks so much

Yeah, I noticed that. When I searched by the criteria given in the clue, I only got one result, and it didn't have the code! I eventually tried searching with just the animal's name, went through the results, and... eventually!!!... found the code.
Maybe AADL could change it so it says "youth fiction," or doesn't give an age?

Edit: I see you fixed it already! :)

If the SG staff reads the comments, is it possible for you to enable sorting and filtering on our scorecards? That way we can quickly check to see which books we've entered as finished.

If we have a question about a badge from a previous badge drop, do we go back to that comment section, or ask it on the most recent comment section? (Same question for Street Quest badges.)

I think it's recommended that you go to that drop's post, but if you are extremely doubtful about my tendency to check those posts, then you can try posting your question on the most recent post.

Help! I can't continue on the Perseus badge because I get an error message that I've already entered the code, and it doesn't give me the clue. Did anyone else have this problem? How did you get around it? Would someone tell me the next clue? Thanks!

@sara - Perseus badge - did you have a problem with the SECOND code? If so, it's probably because the Heros of Olympus had us search for the same 'hairy' lady. You probably found and entered that code on June 15th. Search on the same lady and then filter by YOUTH and book (the clue says Children's book - but choose Youth) and then go thru a few of them to find the NEW/different code.

Hope that helps!

Maybe a FAQ page could be added to the Summer Game so the staff wouldn't have to answer the same questions over and over again. Here are a couple to start with:

1- How do you know that your cell phone has successfully been connected to your player page? I texted S562705 to 4AADL , but I am still unable to text codes in.

2-If you've written a badge, how do you submit it?

@sara...I can help with some of this, but I'm not staff.

1) I take it you generated a code from your player page to text in with your cell phone? Does the cell phone number now show there on your player page? If it does, then you were definitely successful.

2) Send the specification to badges@aadl.org.

To all the gamers out there I am working on a few badges and I need some help finding some clue words. I am so stuck on where to find them and I think I have some of the answers from googling but when I look up the answers in the catalogue I get hundreds of answers in response which means I got the wrong answer all together or I just put in the right answer wrong so I am hoping I can get some clues on how to narrow down my answer or clues on how to find the right clue word.

1.) I need help on finding the final clue word for the "Gromit" badge
2.) I need help on finding the 2nd clue word for "the worst of the West" badge
3.) I need help on finding the 3rd clue word for "the Carroll's cat" badge
4.) I need help finding the 3rd clueword for the Pappy's air plane badge
5.) and I need help finding the 1st codeword for the "the line" bage.

Thanks so much for all the help

For the third clue of Carroll's Cat, think of the book that phrase came from. Try googling it and see what picture books pop up.
Oh, and TWO PAGES! :)

Sorry that I can't help you with a lot of the badges, I've been really behind lately and have only done a couple. :(

1) the final clue word for the Gromit Badge - the clue to find it is: See if you can find a movie with one of the actors who Gromit's expressions were based on.

Since Gromit doesn't talk - who are some famous actors before there were 'talking movies' ? One is Really famous. In 1992 there was a bio-pic movie of this actor. Once you know the actor, go to the catalog and search for his last name, first name and limit by dvd - you should find the clue in one of the first 15 items returned.

Hope that helps!

@Lmd3577:

2.) It's a film of a folk song. The hint is a line from that song. Try googling that line. The answer will remind you of a kind of small citrus fruit.
3.) Recognize the hint about the bear. If you search that on google, you should get a certain board book as a result. I didn't have trouble with that one because I had heard that book SO many times when I was little, but if I hadn't, I might have had trouble with it. :-)

And, can anyone help me with the THIRD code from the "Best of the Worst of the West" badge? I'm stuck. Thanks!

@yaldah, according to my husband who knows westerns far better than I do, the actor in question did not play a sheriff but a Marshall. With that tweak, you might fare a little better, especially if you use IMDB in your searches.

Fun!

Hey all you gamers out there I need help finding two clue words that help me finish off two badges I am working on. I have googled, wikied, and IMDB to no success so I am hoping some of you gamers out there have a couple more clues on where to find to find these two final cluewords I need.

1.) I need help finding the final clueword to the "Pappy" badge
2.) and I need help finding the first clue word to the " The Final" badge

Thanks so much for the help
lmd3577

@lmd3577 #1 - last Pappy code

You are looking for the old name of an island. Find the new / popular resort island name and then look in wikipedia for that island to see what it used to be called. Then search the catalog for the old and new island name (less the word island) and it should retrieve only one result - with the code.

The Hogwarts one is really cool. I guessed the Ravenclaw one, and got it right. :)

I think the multiverse badge has got to be one of the hardest ones out of all the years I've played. Mostly because some of the keywords one would generally use to search just did not work. For example, when looking for the 2nd code, searching for "multiverse" gives you the BOCD of that title but not the book itself. I ended up having to go through the author's list to find it. There were a couple of other times where the keywords that were the logical ones to use to find the item just didn't find what you were looking for. I ended up having to use Google a LOT more than I usually do. Usually I can figure out good search terms from the clues and use those in the catalog, unless it's something specific like some of the airline ones where you need specific names/terms. That didn't work this time around so I was really frustrated at first before I just started Googling each clue (which I really don't like to do - I like to try and figure them out on my own!).

So yeah, that one was tough.

Hi everyone! I wanted to express what a treat it was to meet @mariah, @erin, and Celeste (whose library username I am not yet familiar with) in person at the AADL Board of Trustees meeting this evening, and furthermore how much I appreciated the many young summer game players who came out to speak and express their love of the summer game.

We are truly lucky to have this wonderful and dedicated staff running the summer game and the wonderful programs at our library.

I don't know if anyone can help on this one or not. We attended the third kids concert at Top of the Park a few weeks ago and I wrote down the code at the time and now I cannot find it anywhere. We attended all three concerts and were hoping to get the ultra rocker badge. Maybe if someone who has the code could give me a hint that would jog my memory?

@cherylo, It was so great to get to meet you and your daughter in person! We're thrilled that you guys love the game so much and always happy to see you playing along and helping to guide some of the newer players, too! : )

i like the Mochimochi Land badge! its so cute! its my #2 favorite in the Summer Game 2013 Badge Drop #4... :D

I saw Josie's Catfish yesterday, redeemed the code today. Why is it worth twice as much as completing the classic Summer Reading Program? That gives you 1000 points, and the catfish gives you 500 points for the code, plus 1500 for the badge. It doesn't make sense. Just wondering! :-)

@yaldah - we don't compare apples to oranges when coming up with points for a gamecode. So we aren't comparing the summer game to getting the catfish badge. It's a combination of effort, rarity and incentive. If you have to work harder to get an item, travel in any way to get it done, the times are limited to access it or it's something we want to encourage people to do - - we'll offer more points. It's not an exact science but that's the general idea.
